Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2: Alex’s Shocking Reveal as Billie’s Mother Changes Everything
Throughout Season 2, Billie’s mysterious origins were a recurring mystery. Introduced as a young wizard prophesied to stop an impending apocalypse, Billie was brought under Justin Russo’s (David Henrie) care after Alex found her during a mission for the Wizard Tribunal. But no one, not even Alex herself, knew the truth about Billie’s family.
That all changed when Alex’s tear activated a magical locket belonging to the Penwolf family, triggering a long-lost memory.
In a flashback, viewers saw a tearful Alex dropping off a young Billie at a wizard boarding school years earlier, promising that they would find each other again. Apparently, to protect Billie from her grandfather, the dark wizard Lord Morsus or Nicodemus Penwolf, they decided to erase all the memories of each other.
This twist completely reframes the entire series. While Billie and Alex’s relationship initially seemed like a mentor-student one, this small twist reveals how far a mother will go to save her child and a daughter who unknowingly grows up to fulfill her mother’s greatest sacrifice.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2: Finale Cliffhanger Leaves Alex’s Fate Hanging in the Balance
The action-filled second half of the finale sees Alex, Justin, and Giada racing to stop Lord Morsus from opening a rift to the world of dark magic. When Morsus, disguised as Justin, tricks Billie into helping him complete the spell, Alex’s tears and the revelation of her motherhood awaken Billie’s full powers.
But with the rift open, someone must close it from the inside, and Selena Gomez’s Alex makes the ultimate sacrifice.
The finale ends on a bittersweet note, with Billie and the Russos devastated but determined to find a way to bring Alex back. As the camera lingers, there is a hint that there might be a way that Alex may still be alive, trapped on the other side of the rift. While Season 3 has not been announced yet, there is a chance we might see Alex back.
