The late-night show industry has faced a massive fiasco that shook the Internet. But amid this controversy, it also led to a rare televised conversation between famed hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert.
The disaster that happened to their respective shows earned sympathy from their colleagues, with the latter revealing on The Late Show that he got unexpected messages from an eclectic bunch of people:
I got some fun ones. I gave my phone to Evie as soon as I was canceled. I handed my phone to Evie and I said, ‘Don’t give this back to me for several days.’ When I finally went through it: high school girlfriend, James Taylor, and George R.R. Martin. He sent me The Winds of Winter.
Fans would definitely give anything to secure a copy of The Winds of Winter, and it’s obvious that even Colbert is patiently waiting for the book’s release. At the same time, George R.R. Martin hasn’t been too generous in giving updates about his writing progress, so it was a hilarious nudge at the book’s delay.
Stephen Colbert’s Friendly Jab at The Winds of Winter Delay Is GRRM’s Wake-Up Call
George R.R. Martin might not be a frequent guest at late-night shows, but he did speak with Colbert in 2018 and 2022 and even shared updates about The Winds of Winter. In the author’s last appearance on The Late Show, he said he’s three-quarters of the way done with the book. At the time, fans thought this was great news.
Three years later, George R. R. Martin is nowhere near finished with the manuscript. Colbert knows that fans have grown impatient amid the delay, so his playful comment should serve as a reminder for the author of what he said the last time he was on the show.
Colbert joking about receiving The Winds of Winter manuscript through text shows he knows that any mention of Martin’s name will always be followed by a question about the upcoming book, so it was quite witty of him to have thought of that line in advance.
The Winds of Winter’s Progress Is Now Questionable After Recent Update
It is difficult to gauge Martin’s progress with the book without hearing any reports from him. However, a recent update has made it worse now after author Jeffe Kennedy revealed that The Winds of Winter is reportedly 70% done.
Netizens went into a frenzy upon hearing this because, if this is confirmed to be true, then Martin has been really struggling to write chapters, and he’s in the same spot since his last appearance on Colbert’s show! It didn’t help that he lost 5% of the progress, too.
Of course, George R.R. Martin could be rewriting and revising a lot. Like Colbert, many fans are waiting for the long-overdue novel. Hopefully, the host’s playful joke would work wonders and motivate Martin to finish the book as soon as possible.
