Despite her popularity as a comedian, Amy Schumer seems to attract a great deal of controversy. She is outspoken and confident, which led to her initial success both in stand-up comedy and Hollywood movies. After more than two decades in the industry, no one seems to care about casting her in roles anymore.

From allegedly plagiarizing jokes to expressing controversial opinions about world issues, the 44-year-old New York native finds herself embroiled in nasty issues that have been affecting not only her career but also how fans perceive her as a public figure.

1. Amy Schumer’s Netflix Special Was A Critical Failure

2. Amy Schumer’s Comedy Lacks Diversity, Always About Female Anatomy

One of the major criticisms when it comes to Schumer’s stand-up comedies is her overreliance on jokes involving human s*xual organs, specifically that of females, to the point that it has already become the blueprint of her performances, according to a Redditor. The lack of diversity in her lines, despite how good she delivers them, tends to bore the audience.

3. Amy Schumer Tore Down Other Women Despite Claiming to Be A Feminist

Schumer claims to be a feminist, but she had moments when she said controversial things about other women. During her 2023 Netflix special, she took a jab at Hilaria Baldwin for pretending to be Spanish. During her guesting on the Opie & Anthony Show, Schumer revealed moving a cab driver’s hand towards her private part.

5. Amy Schumer Is Accused of Stealing Jokes

Schumer has been accused of copying jokes from other comedians. Wendy Liebman, Tammy Pescatelli, and Kathleen Madigan all pointed their fingers at the Trainwreck star, claiming she stole materials from each of them.

Between Amy Schumer doing 1 of my best jokes on her HBO special and this meme of my joke, I’m done with social media,” said Liebman in a now-deleted tweet (via HuffPost). The comedian-actress defended herself and denied that she stole their materials on Jim Norton’s SiriusXM.

Together with Snatched co-star Goldie Hawn, Schumer shared a video of what seems to be a parody of Beyoncé’s Formation. It drew criticism from the public and was accused of appropriating a song that was meant to encourage black female empowerment. After the backlash, Schumer wrote an essay admitting she did not mean to detract any of the meaning from the said video.

7. Amy Schumer Reveals Double Standard Views About Body Image

For someone who openly admits struggling with body image, Schumer’s comments in the past sent mixed signals. The actress acknowledged her own size, but she seemingly didn’t want to be associated with other curvy stars.
