Why America’s Getting the Xbox Game Pass Price Hike Earlier Than the Rest of the World

By Richard Moore 10/08/2025

Microsoft’s decision to roll out the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price hike in the USA and UK while delaying it in many other countries has sparked a wave of disapproval amongst the fans. In the USA, the price has increased from $19.99 per month to $29.99 per month, and the payment effects have already taken place. For new subscribers, the new rate is valid from October 1, 2025, whereas for current subscribers, it begins from November 4, 2025.

In other countries, like India, Germany, Ireland, Poland, and South Korea, Microsoft will have to manage the local regulations on subscription price changes before imposing a hike. On the other hand, the USA and UK can cope with the price hike to some extent. That is likely the reason why they are suffering from the hike earlier than the rest of the world, where Game Pass is available.

What the USA and the UK Getting Game Pass Hike Earlier Means For Microsoft

Rolling out the price hike in America and the UK before other countries might be a strategic win for Microsoft. How, you ask? Well, both of these countries have relatively more consumers who can spend on such luxuries without thinking twice. This somehow gives them a higher tolerance to price hikes, while users from other countries may have to rethink before renewing.

With the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price hike imposed in the said countries earlier, Microsoft can easily assess the consumer response. This will help them track the financial impact in its strongest region before expanding the new pricing globally.

In countries other than the USA and UK, Microsoft may have to complete all the legal proceedings before rolling out the new rates. Since every country has different legal frameworks, the gaming giant might face some legal obstructions. Hence, the delay in other countries may remain indefinitely long.

Realistic Schedule of Global Xbox Game Pass Price Hike Chart

While Microsoft hasn’t released an official global schedule, you can expect a staggered increase in the price over the coming months. Here’s the speculated release date on which the Xbox Game Pass might see the effective rates triggered worldwide:

The most likely scenario is a phased rollout. Meaning that priority markets are first, followed by regions with more complex regulatory landscapes. You can expect them to roll out within 6 months after the USA adjustments are done and settled. Once the price hikes are decided for other countries, Microsoft will send an email 2 months prior. This will give them a chance to adjust to the new changes.

How Many Have Unsubscribed From Xbox Game Pass After 50% Hike

Currently, Microsoft hasn’t shared the exact figure for how many users have unsubscribed from Xbox Game Pass. However, the results are definitely noticeable, as the cancellation page for subscription crashed while hundreds of users tried to unsubscribe.

IGN had conducted a poll where they asked if players are looking to renew or cancel their Game Pass subscription. The poll managed to gather 41,000 voters, out of which 53.9% said they will be cancelling the subscription once the prices increase.

Although we think that most players will still stick to their subscription, given that Microsoft is giving exclusive benefits, like 400+ games from the library, new games on day one, etc.
