In February, it was revealed that actor Ruaridh Mollica will be joining the MCU as Tommy Maximoff, the son of Scarlet Witch and Vision, in the upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest (via Deadline). Along with him, we will also see the return of Wiccan, who is Tommy’s twin brother, played by Joe Locke and first seen in Agatha All Along (via Out).
Thus, with the return of actor Paul Bettany as Vision, it will be an amazing new series to uncover the fate of the aforementioned characters, as well as Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. But when it comes to Mollica, many might recognise him from somewhere or other.
Thus, here’s a list of things that will help you remember where you may have seen the star in the past.
1. Early Roles as a Child Actor
Ruaridh Mollica started his journey as a child actor in the film industry in Europe, playing several different roles in many films and TV series. His debut was in 2013’s Case Histories on BBC One, where he played the role of Freddie Marshal.
Later, he would also be part of Sunshine on Leith
2. Rising to Fame in 2022 With Too Rough
His breakthrough towards international recognition came in the form of his short film Too Rough, which was an LGBTQ+ psychological drama film where he played the lead role of Nick. This film managed to gain critical acclaim for the story and the performances of both Mollica and his co-star Joshua Griffin.
It was also awarded the Best Short Film prize in both the BAFTA Scotland awards and the British Independent Film Awards (via The Independent Critic), which put Mollica on the map for both executives and the audience.
3. Many Well-Known Television Roles
Just like his early childhood career on TV, his career as an adult in the industry also boasts several TV roles, where his first main character depictions came in the form of Po in Witness Number 3. His depiction as a seemingly terrifying gang leader was layered with emotional undertones and a solid performance (via Express UK).
Along with this, he has been seen in other roles as well, like his portrayal of Jaz Cox in HBO’s The Franchise, Troy in The Jetty, Ray Stanford in Ridley, and Patrick Hume in Netflix’s Red Rose.
4. Lead Role in 2024’s Drama Film Sebastian
Perhaps his biggest role in the film industry so far, putting Mollica in the lead role of the drama film Sebastian, made people realise just how much more the star can offer. Here, we witness his chops in the role of an aspiring young writer in London, who begins living a double life as a s*x worker to research his debut novel.
This film was the opener of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival (via AwardsDaily), where the critical reception of the film brought it to the attention of the audience.
5. Nominations and Achievements From BAFTA and BIFA
Apart from Too Rough winning both the BAFTA Scotland awards and the British Independent Film Awards mentioned above, Mollica was also crowned as one of the biggest rising stars in Scotland (via Screen Daily).
And with his amazing performance in Sebastian, he was nominated for an award in the Breakthrough Performance category by BIFA. Even in 2025, BAFTA nominated him for Best Actor Film/Television category for the same film.
