When Will The Long Walk Release on Streaming?

Another Stephen King novel adaptation made its way to theaters, titled The Long Walk. From director Francis Lawrence helming the project to some iconic cast members taking on creative roles, the film was iconic but also a box office failure.

The film will be expected to release on Lionsgate sooner, but before it hits streaming, The Long Walk will be getting a PVOD (Premium Video-on-Demand). The movie will be available to buy or rent on multiple platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and more.

When and Where Can You Watch The Long Walk?

As per the PVOD standard, it is expected that a movie can take anywhere from 17 to 45 days to be available for video on demand. This brings us to the assumption that The Long Walk will be available to buy or rent on major platforms like Apple TV and Prime Video from mid-October 2025.

With the release date of The Long Walk being September 12, the film will probably be available for PVOD from mid-October, with a streaming date much later on.

According to the table of recent Lionsgate flicks, it seems that The Long Walk will be expected to have a streaming release somewhere between February and March 2026.

Of course, this is just an assumption since Lionsgate can change that decision anytime, but the trend of these films suggests a pattern where the streaming date is 6 months after their theatrical release.

With Lionsgate having a deal, the film will be available to stream on Starz, much like every other Lionsgate film.

Why The Long Walk Can Succeed on Streaming After Box-Office Failure

Well, it’s no secret that The Long Walk was a box office failure. Not exactly a failure, but the film’s earnings were way lower than expected. According to Box Office Mojo, the film earned a total of $14 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

To tell you the truth, The Long Walk is indeed more of a stream-at-home kind of movie rather than a theatrical experience. Being a slow burn by Francis Lawrence, The Long Walk is a masterpiece in building up tension, but you don’t need a big screen and speakers to create that tension.

The film had some shock factors where the moments indeed paid off, but The Long Walk wasn’t the theatrical experience that films like F1 or Top Gun: Maverick provided.

Hence, despite the film’s low earnings, we think it would be a big hit when it comes to streaming at home. Do you think The Long Walk was worth it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

The Long Walk is currently screening in select theaters (USA).
