What HBO Max Series Is Coming to Netflix? Ophelia Lovibond’s Show Lands on the Streamer

By Mark Davis 10/08/2025

The HBO Max original comedy Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, is officially coming to Netflix US on November 4, 2025 (via What’s on Netflix). Originally launched on HBO Max and later picked up by Starz, the show’s two-season run is now getting another life on Netflix.

A critically acclaimed show, Minx follows the story of a feminist writer who teams up with a shady adult entertainment publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women in 1970s Los Angeles. The show has an overall 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, with season 1 getting a 98% RT score and season 2 holding a 89% RT score.

However, Netflix has not confirmed if both seasons will be available at launch, but it is widely expected.

Why Minx Got Canceled for Season 3?

Despite its critical acclaim, Minx was canceled for season 3. The series was first canceled by HBO Max in 2022, even though production for Season 2 was already nearly complete. The show was canceled primarily due to cost-cutting tax write-offs. Following this, Starz stepped in and picked up the show, airing both Season 1 and Season 2.

Unfortunately, Season 2 premiered just as the SAG-AFTRA strike began, which severely limited the show’s ability to promote its return. The lack of visibility with a modest viewership made it difficult for Minx to build the momentum needed for season 3 renewal.

In an interview with Deadline, Jake Johnson, who played Doug Renetti, reflected on the show’s cancellation,

I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show]. Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it… My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.

Ultimately, Starz canceled the series for a second time in early 2024. Despite the cancellation, both seasons remained on the Starz app and digital platforms until Netflix acquired the show.

Netflix Has Been Picking Up More Shows From Lionsgate Television

Netflix has been actively expanding its catalog from Lionsgate Television with shows that previously aired on other networks or platforms. Other recent Lionsgate series picked up by Netflix include The Hunting Wives, which debuts in the U.S. this October. The show became a huge hit and was recently renewed for season 2.

Other shows include Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, which is available in select international regions, and Hightown, now streaming in the U.S. Netflix has also added Love Life, Spartacus, and Nurse Jackie to its growing lineup (via What’s on Netflix). Here are all the show names acquired by Netflix:

Though a Season 3 is unlikely, the show’s move to Netflix could reignite interest. But for now, the chances of revival are pretty low.
