If you have been watching Tulsa King since the start, there is no denying that the show’s biggest missteps so far have been letting Tyson Mitchell stay alive and active in Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi’s circle. The character, portrayed by Jay Will, is one of the main characters of the Taylor Sheridan-created drama series. Although he is quick-witted, the character is actually as annoying as it can get.
Tyson has earned Dwight’s trust over time, but we can’t help but feel the show leans too far into his mistakes without consequences. In the past, he has made poor calls, exposed Dwight’s operations, and, in some eyes, become a weak link in a tight, ruthless world where mistakes kill. Arrogant and proud, his actions, like attacking Vic at Bevilaqua, highlight that he is a liability to have instead of someone valuable.
Even though he has improved from the first season, from just being a naive driver to someone with more confidence, it is exhausting to wait for his character arc. Hence, it would be better to have him disposed of than wait around for him to change while he continues on his reckless path. With enemies mounting in the upcoming third season, maintaining someone who cannot always keep up might endanger the entire organization, and Dwight should realize this before it gets too late.
How Did Tyson’s Actions Affect His Dad?
Season 2 of Tulsa King was pretty eventful, but things reached a high point in the seventh episode when somebody tried to kill Dwight. Tyson’s father ended up gravely injured by the bomb planted in Dwight’s and Tyson’s car.
Reportedly, the car bomb was planted to kill Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight, but Tyson ended up gifting the car to his dad, Mark. The result was that Mark barely survived the attack. While Mark was already suffering the consequences of Tyson’s association with Dwight, the attack proved how disastrous Tyson’s choices are for his family.
This not only strained the relationship between Tyson and his parents but also highlighted how the former’s choices aren’t just a danger to himself but carry huge implications for the ones close to him.
Tulsa King: What’s Next for Tyson?
With Season 3 heating up, the big question is: will Tyson finally prove himself, or will he make one mistake too many? Dwight clearly values Tyson’s loyalty, but loyalty only goes so far when survival is on the line.
There are only two ways things might turn out for him in the upcoming third season: either he will redeem himself with some major selfless act or end up committing another major blunder that might cost Dwight and the crew.
However, there is also a possibility that Tyson might change his ways. He was severely disturbed by how his actions affected his father, so there is a speculation that he may end up choosing his parents’ safety over his loyalty to Dwight.
With Season 4 of Tulsa King already confirmed and Season 3 just days away from releasing, let us know in the comments below what your thoughts are about Tyson: will he redeem himself, or will he continue to be a liability?
Tulsa King Season 3 will premiere on Sunday, September 21, 2025, on Paramount+, with new episodes dropping weekly on Sundays.
