John Cena is currently in the final leg of his retirement tour. While the year-long buildup to his last run in the WWE has been through several ups and downs, Triple H already gave a hint of what to expect from his retirement tour even before it all began.

The chief content officer of the WWE and Cena were involved in a backstage conversation, which appeared in WWE: Unreal, a documentary on Netflix, where The Game can be seen telling Cena about having a way to ruin Cena’s retirement tour. The 17-time World Champion, however, opined that he’ll play the stats and say it’s not going to happen.

Triple H Unveiled the Details About John Cena’s Retirement Match

While this moment has become a major talking point after all that has happened in Cena’s retirement tour, Triple H provided the official confirmation of Cena’s retirement match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, DC, through a post on his X account.

The ‘never-seen 17’ is poised to face AJ Styles at Crown Jewel 2025 in RAC Arena, Perth, Australia. There have been several speculations about who will be Cena’s final opponent. However, no official confirmation has been provided as of now.

Amidst constant talks around his final WWE appearance on December 13, Bodyslam has reported that there have been internal discussions to have John Cena wrestle WWE Intercontinental and AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio in his last match.

If this turns out to be true, this will be another major letdown before Cena hangs up his wrestling boots forever. With Edge taking an indefinite break from AEW, many fans had expected that the Rated-R superstar would be Cena’s final opponent inside the squared circle in a showdown clash of their iconic rivalry.

Triple H Has Successfully Ruined John Cena’s Retirement Tour

When John Cena announced that this would be his last year in the WWE, everyone expected a celebration of sorts of the timeless legacy he has created in the company. Triple H himself noted the remarkable contributions he made as a WWE superstar. During an interview with The Deadline, ‘The Game’ shared:

John’s contributions to WWE are immeasurable. There is no quote I can give that can truly relay how much he means to this business. But his actions during the course of his retirement tour has been contradictory to his words. Inconsistent bookings short term plannings and disappointing story lines has been the highlight of Cena’s final run in the company.

WWE creative heads under Triple H initially decided to provide Seena with a heel turn. John Cena sold his soul to The Rock in an unprecedented development at Elimination Chamber 2025 and vowed to ruin wrestling. But it failed to create any impact among WWE fans. The WWE universe could not resonate with a heel John Cena, which forced the company to turn him baby face once again before SummerSlam 2025.

The failure to provide a proper direction for John Cena’s retirement tour turned out to be detrimental to him. For his final few appearances, it looks like Cena has taken the matter into his own hands, deciding on matches that fans really want to see. Triple H has taken a back seat in this regard, playing along with the last few wishes before he finally retires.
