George R.R. Martin is about to give fans the best storyline of Tyrion Lannister in The Winds of Winter after revealing in his interview with Game of Owns that he’s been writing tons of Tyrion chapters. One of the most popular theories regarding the fate of the Lannister lord is his possible reunion with Tysha, his first wife, and Lanna, his supposed daughter.
So much mystery shrouds these two figures because not only do readers know little about them, but the details concerning their identities also barely align. Indeed, the most exciting plot for Tyrion is expected to take place in the upcoming book!
Who Is Tysha? Complete ASOIAF Timeline of Tyrion’s First Love Explained
It was totally cruel of Game of Thrones to omit the story of Tyrion’s first wife, but before Shae, there was Tysha. She was mentioned in the show through a story told by Tyrion himself during a game, but it was not the entirety of it. In fact, Tysha’s fate was instrumental to Tyrion committing patricide.
In Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, Tysha was a crofter’s daughter who was found by Jaime and Tyrion on the road, between Lannisport and Casterly Rock, being chased by men. As Jaime drove away her assailants, Tyrion brought her to an inn. They ate, spoke, and drank wine, and by morning, they were married.
When Tywin found out about the marriage, he ordered Jaime to lie to Tyrion and tell him that Tysha was a prostitute and the whole road fiasco was a setup. Unsatisfied with this, Tywin also had his guards assault Tysha, each man giving her a silver coin. To make things worse, he ordered Tyrion to assault his wife, too, and later on, the marriage was undone.
Fast forward to A Storm of Swords, Jaime confessed to Tyrion the truth, that Tysha was not a cheap woman but merely a commoner, igniting Tyrion’s desire to kill his own father.
In A Dance With Dragons, Tyrion kept musing about his father’s words: “Wherever wh*res go,” which prompted his desire to look for and meet Tysha again.
There had been speculations that the Sailor’s Wife who works at the Happy Port brothel in Braavos is Tysha. She has a daughter named Lanna, who is fourteen years of age and has golden hair, a distinct Lannister trait.
Lanna’s age perfectly matches up with the time Tysha married Tyrion, and of all the names she could have, she was given the feminine form of Lann, which is, of course, the name of the hero who founded House Lannister.
GRRM Writing Tons of Tyrion Chapters Could Mean Revelation About Tysha & Lanna
Martin drafting tons of Tyrion POV chapters is a sign that we might get more storylines exploring the character’s search for Tysha and a possible meeting with Lanna.
There are a couple of contradictions, though, towards the Sailor’s Wife being Tysha. First, it was mentioned that her first husband was a sailor who got lost at sea. Of course, this could be a ruse to hide her true identity, but why was she in Braavos? This is another question that the author will have to tackle in The Winds of Winter.
Lanna is another interesting storyline that fans will hopefully read in the next book. Like her mother, she also works at the Happy Port brothel. Tyrion’s reaction when he meets his supposed daughter and discovers her livelihood could be the ultimate twist that awaits us all!
