While Amo was pushed to the brink of death by the very person she grew up with in Gachiakuta, she didn’t die. Instead, she managed to kick him off the tower-like building, and the man died from the fall. Even though he had been abusive toward her, Amo still called him “Mister” and saw him through the eyes of love, not really understanding what she was feeling.
But how did she end up in such a situation? In Gachiakuta, Amo’s character has recently seen a huge spike in popularity, thanks to her unconventional appearance and twisted personality. However, many fans weren’t ready for the heartbreaking backstory revealed in Episode 13. Here’s everything you need to know in case you missed this one of anime’s most tragic stories.
Amo Empool Has the Darkest Backstory in Gachiakuta
Even for an already gritty series like Gachiakuta, Amo’s backstory is easily one of the darkest and messed up. She never really got to enjoy life as a kid. Due to poverty, her mom even ended up selling her to a child trafficker who promised to love her.
That man took her to the Forbidden Zone, Penta, where they lived together in a huge watch tower-like house. The man made Amo go through many so-called ‘rituals’, ones that made her heart race for all the wrong reasons.
But one day, two masked strangers broke into their place. They knocked the guy out and handed Amo the man’s pair of boots, telling her to hold onto them until the right moment comes. They even convinced her that the shoes belonged to her, not explaining why that was so.
When the man came to his senses, he saw the boots and accused Amo of stealing them. But here’s the twist: the boots had already bonded with her and turned into her Jinki. And in that moment of rage and fear, she kicked the man out of the tower to his death.
Since then, Amo has long wandered the Ground, watching people descend from Heaven, though she only ever saw one person go back up.
Amo Will Likely Play a Vital Role in the Future Storyline
Right now, the Gachiakuta manga is at the Doll Festival Arc, and things are getting pretty interesting. Although the arc primarily focuses on the Choker Maker’s identity and the Doll Festival itself, the narrative has enough scope for Amo. For instance, the arc highlights Amo’s inner struggles and what drives her. After everything she’s been through, it’s clear she’s still figuring herself out.
Some basic info about the Gachiakuta anime:
In this arc, Amo joins the Cleaners as the “Healer.” However, she eventually realizes that she doesn’t have enough first-hand experience to control or understand her powers fully. She’s always been this strong, confident presence, but now we might see the cracks. Will she really be able to keep up and help Rudo and others?
How she overcomes this mental block is still a mystery. Knowing Gachiakuta, this won’t be an easy journey. Still, seeing Amo confront her own weaknesses might just be the next big thing in the manga’s storyline. Wouldn’t you agree?
Gachiakuta is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
