The A-Team director Joe Carnahan has arrived with a new film, The Rip, reuniting fan-favorite duo and lifelong buddies Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The film will not only be their first project for Netflix but also set a record as the duo’s first foray into the action thriller genre together.
Since their debut in the 1990s, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon teaming up for a movie has always proven to be a recipe for success. Their upcoming film, The Rip looks to be nothing short of a modern-day masterpiece, too. The Netflix film, which stars a who’s who of actors, will launch directly on the streamer on January 16, 2026.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s The Rip: 2-Minute Trailer Breakdown

While Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s conjoined filmography has offered up a great many classics, the duo is still managing to bring something new to the table with The Rip. The action thriller has all the thrills of an adrenaline-packed and fast-paced plot, alongside seductive and stylish cinematography.
The official logline of the movie reads:
Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.
Affleck plays Det. Sergeant J.D. Byrne in the film, while Damon portrays Lieutenant Dane Dumars.
The trailer of the film grows from monotonous to dramatic in 120 seconds. What starts as a routine tip-off to a stash house turns into an escalating spiral of violence, betrayal, and swaying loyalties. For the first time in Affleck and Damon’s on-screen history, the audience sees one turning against the other.
Characters at the core of the film grow increasingly untrustworthy as the plot moves forward, and the audience hears their thoughts being spoken aloud when Damon says: Are we the good guys?
Steven Yeun, Kyle Chandler, Sasha Calle, and Teyana Taylor also star in the film as the supporting cast and deliver equally compelling performances.
The Rip will premiere directly on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
