The Official Release Party of a Showgirl Box-Office: Taylor Swift Outgrossed Tom Cruise’s Best Movie in 3 Days

By George Garcia 10/10/2025

Taylor Swift’s concert film, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, has completely rocked the box office. In just one weekend, from October 3 to October 5, the film made a jaw-dropping $50M worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). And guess what? That’s more than what Tom Cruise’s famous 1999 film Magnolia earned in its entire run.

Yep, back when Cruise’s critically acclaimed movie hit theatres, it managed to earn barely $48.4M total (via Box Office Mojo). And now, over a decade later, Swift’s movie, with a mix of music, energy, and fan love, became an instant hit the moment it arrived in theaters. This shows that the pop star has once again proved that her fan power is unlike anything else.

The table contains basic details on The Official Release Party of a Showgirl:

Taylor Swift’s Showgirl Movie Beat Major 2025 Movies

Now guess what? Tom Cruise’s Magnolia isn’t the only movie that Taylor Swift toppled with the box office performance of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. Turns out, her concert film, shown for only three days, from October 3 to 5, made it difficult for other critically acclaimed movies to perform at the box office.

At its core, Swift’s film was more than just a regular movie. It was a fun mix of behind-the-scenes moments, lyric videos, and small interviews with the pop star talking about her songs. She even wrote and directed the film herself, making it a full-on Swift experience for fans.

Naturally, this storytelling and the celebration of her music, creativity, and her connection with fans attracted audiences to the theatres. Although the seats were mainly filled with women, it somehow made her take over the box office. Therefore, her film beat several major Hollywood releases that had much bigger budgets and months of promotion.

It outperformed Dwayne Johnson’s The Smashing Machine ($6M opening weekend), Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another ($22M opening weekend), and even Good Boy ($2.3M opening weekend). Naturally, some studios reportedly felt frustrated because their heavily promoted films were overshadowed by what was basically a concert documentary (via NBC News).

But overall, it proved that when Taylor Swift releases something, the world pays attention.

How Much Has Taylor Swift Earned So Far From The Life of a Showgirl

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift isn’t just winning at the box office; she’s breaking music records, too. Her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, has already become one of the biggest music releases in history. In just five days, the album sold and streamed more than 3.5 million units worldwide, according to Billboard

The number suggests that either people bought the full album or streamed it online in massive numbers. And amid all this, the last artist to come close to Swift’s record-breaking sales is Adele, whose album 25 made 3.48 million in its first week back in 2015. But it seems the American pop star has obliterated Adele’s records.

Additionally, The Life of a Showgirl is already breaking streaming records in 2025. It’s now the year’s second-biggest streaming week for any album, only behind Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem, which had 462.63M streams when it came out in May. That means Swift’s album is also one of the top 10 most-streamed albums ever in a single week.

This isn’t new territory for her, though. Swift still holds the all-time record for the biggest streaming week ever with The Tortured Poets Department in 2024, which had a massive 891.37 million streams when it launched. Meanwhile, there are 32 different versions of The Life of a Showgirl available, which are helping boost its overall sales and streams.

Each version offers fans something unique, proving the pop star knows exactly how to keep her audience hooked.
