The Silent Hill franchise is looking to shake things up. While we only just got Silent Hill f, leakers are suggesting that the next entry in the series (a spin-off) could arrive sooner than expected. What’s even more exciting is that it might be making the right creative choice this time.
Unlike f, which leaned on melee combat to mixed reception from the fans, the upcoming title, called Silent Hill Townfall, appears to be focusing on atmospheric horror. If true, it’ll make a return to what the franchise has always done best: psychological dread and haunting storytelling.
Silent Hill Townfall: What We Know So Far
If a recent leak from @immalkwalahi on X (formerly Twitter) is to be believed, Silent Hill Townfall aims to release in 2026. The game will reportedly take place in a mysterious town haunted by its past, with several interconnected stories (short ones) forming its narrative.
As for the gameplay horror elements, the game is said to revolve around spirits that are lingering near a small beach outside the town. Unlike melee combat-driven Silent Hill f
If you don’t know, the short message was all about investigation and chasing the number of sequences, which not only forward the story but also provided some great jumpscares. There was no need to find weapons or do resource management.
The game is planned for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. This spin-off will be developed by No Code, best known for Stories Untold and Observation. One last thing to note: it’s a leak and should be taken as such (with a grain of salt).
Townfall Will Focus on Atmosphere Over Combat
One of the biggest criticisms of Silent Hill f was its overused melee combat (and the need to maintain it). Sure, the game is good and tells a decent narrative, but many fans felt it steered a little too far from the psychological tension the series is known for.
While combat has always existed in the Silent Hill franchise, it was never the main focus; the real terror and the feeling of loneliness came from the eerie sound design, oppressive environments, and unsettling stories.
If the leak holds, Townfall will take the franchise back to its roots by removing weapons entirely and fully embracing investigation, pursuit sequences, and atmosphere-driven scares. This approach mirrors The Short Message, a small game that showed how frightening a Silent Hill game can be without combat.
Fans are welcoming the change, seeing it as a much-needed correction after f. Still, Silent Hill f has value as a fresh entry point for new players, blending action with horror. But for longtime fans hoping the series would return to its roots, Townfall is looking to deliver the chilling experience.
