The Man Behind P Diddy’s Prison Sentence: Who Is Judge Subramanian and His Connection to Joe Biden

By David Smith 10/04/2025

Rapper and music mogul P Diddy was recently sentenced in October 2025 by Judge Arun Subramanian. But who exactly is he? Well, as per NDTV World, Subramanian was born to Indian immigrant parents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spent years building a strong reputation in the American legal system.

Graduating from Case Western Reserve University and pursuing a law degree from Columbia Law School, Subramanian has worked with well-known judges, including the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Meanwhile, during his tenure as a successful lawyer, he helped recover over $1 billion for clients.

Through his cases, he also helped represent victims of child p*rnography, trafficking, and handling consumer rights cases. In 2022, Arun Subramanian was recommended for a federal judgeship by Senator Chuck Schumer and was later nominated by former President Joe Biden. Eventually, Subramanian was confirmed as a federal judge in 2023, which paved his way towards P Diddy’s high-profile case.

What is Judge Subramanian’s Verdict on P Diddy’s Case?

After being appointed to Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs’ case, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced the infamous rapper to 50 months (a little over 4 years) in prison and fined him $500,000 in October 2025 (via BBC). The verdict came after a jury found Diddy guilty of transportation for prostitution involving two of his ex-girlfriends, Cassandra Ventura and a woman identified as Jane.

Previously, the rapper was cleared of the more serious s*x trafficking and racketeering charges, which could have otherwise led to a life sentence. Now, during the recent sentencing, Judge Subramanian made it clear via The NY Times that the punishment was meant to send a strong message about accountability and the seriousness of s*xual abuse.

Subramanian stressed that violence against women must never be overlooked, no matter who the perpetrator is. So, rejecting the defence’s argument that Diddy’s “freak off” parties were consensual, the judge said that his actions inflicted harm on the victims. He further added that the entertainment industry should not treat exploitation as acceptable behavior (via People).

Given the prevalence of s*xual violence in society, a substantial sentence must be given to send a message to abusers and victims alike that abuse against women is met with real accountability.

I know you feel like you are in a dark place now, but these crimes were serious ones, and your violence, coercion, and abuse have had devastating consequences for the women involved, women who loved and depend on you. We all have voices. You have a megaphone.

Addressing P Diddy directly, Judge Arun Subramanian told him that while this may feel like a dark time in his life, he must recognize the damage his actions caused. He urged the rapper to reflect on his deeds and use his influence in a positive way moving forward. The judge later encouraged Diddy to speak up for change instead of continuing a pattern of abuse.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Remarks Following the Verdict

Meanwhile, before the sentence was announced, Sean P Diddy Combs spoke in court for the first time in over a year. He apologized to Cassandra Ventura and the woman identifying as Jane, expressing deep regret for his actions. Diddy admitted that his behavior had hurt people he cared about and said he wanted to take responsibility for his mistakes.

The rapper also said he felt ashamed of what he had done and how it affected his family and career. According to The NY Times, Diddy told the court that losing his freedom, reputation, and success had been one of the hardest experiences of his life. He said he hoped to make amends and become a better person in the future.

No matter what anybody says, I know that I’m truly sorry for it all. I don’t take lightly my Mann Act conviction. I understand the severity of it, and I’m having to deal with the consequences. [I apologise to Cassie Ventura] for any harm or hurt that I’ve caused her, emotionally or physically.

I want to thank you for giving me the chance to finally speak up for myself. One of the hardest things I’ve had to handle is having to be quiet, not being able to express how sorry I am for my actions.

Ending his statement, Combs said he was “truly sorry” for everything that happened. Even though the judge’s decision marked a serious turning point in his life, his words showed a mix of guilt and acceptance as he faced the consequences of his actions.
