Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera’s The Lost Bus has been a fiery hit, and there was one notable scene during the movie where America Ferrera brought out her inner Sandra Bullock to take the wheel.
During an interview with ET Online, Ferrera and McConaughey sat down to talk about the Paul Greengrass film. According to Ferrera, she wasn’t trying to draw parallels to Sandra Bullock’s film from Speed, but it sort of happened naturally.
I own it because ‘Speed’ w as one of my favorite movies growing up. I did happen to have short hair just like Sandra Bullock did in that movie. I just happened to mirror Sandra Bullock a little bit.
She continued,
Not that that’s what I was going for. It [the bus] was going fast. I’m like, ‘There’s my Keanu’ [referring to Matthew McConaughey].
Well, for the unversed, there’s a very beautiful moment in The Lost Bus where every fan would have gotten nostalgic because it looked so similar to Speed.
Matthew McConaughey’s The Lost Bus Drew Parallels to That One Scene From Speed
While driving through the raging inferno and trying to get to their evacuation zone, Matthew McConaughey’s Kevin gets stuck in traffic as everyone is trying to get out of the wildfire.
During one such moment, the house on their left erupts in flames, and McConaughey tries to get out of the lane. With people refusing to budge, McConaughey gives the driving wheel to America Ferrera’s Mary (a teacher with the kids).
Similar to Speed, Mary tells Kevin that she doesn’t know how to drive, while Kevin tells her to hold the brake down and put her foot on the accelerator when he says “Come on”. McConaughey gets down and clears the traffic just enough while also guiding Mary to come forward.
Although not exactly a one-on-one copy of Speed, the initial conversation and America Ferrera’s looks did remind us of the 1994 movie, with McConaughey replacing Keanu Reeves for a brief moment.
