Terminator Star’s Upcoming Apple TV Series: Major Threat to Taylor Sheridan’s Empire

By Thomas Smith 10/08/2025

Terminator star Jason Clarke is ready to drop his next Apple TV series, The Last Frontier, which stars a lone U.S. marshal going against dozens of violent inmates freed from a prison transport plane in a Taylor Sheridan-style setting.

The series is set to drop on October 10, 2025, on Apple TV+. With a singular lead going against enemies and a government agency, it appears that Apple TV is banking on the Sheridan formula to win over audiences. With less than three days to go for the show release, here’s everything that you need to know.

The Last Frontier: What Do We Know About the Jason Clarke Series?

The Last Frontier, a new series from creators Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, is set to premiere on Apple TV+. Here are key details regarding the show.

The plot revolves around U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, whose secluded life in Alaska is thrown into chaos when a prison transport plane crashes in the wilderness, releasing dozens of dangerous inmates. As he probes the plane crash, numerous fugitives are at large.

Jason Clarke takes on the lead role of Frank Remnick. The 56-year-old Australian actor is best known for his role as Tommy Caffee in the television series Brotherhood. The series comprises 10 episodes, set to be released weekly following the two-episode premiere.

Taylor Sheridan Shows Are Built on Frontier Crime: Apple TV Created the Perfect Rival

Taylor Sheridan’s shows are largely built around frontier crime, meaning they explore lawlessness, justice, and morality in rugged or untamed landscapes. Sheridan has also cemented himself as a powerhouse with his shows Yellowjackets and Tulsa King, which feature lawlessness in ranchlands.

His stories revolve around events that occur when violence collides with civilized folk who live on the borders, whether it’s the old American West or a modern industrial town.

In Yellowstone, the Dutton family’s sprawling Montana ranch becomes the battleground for land, legacy, and control. The Last Frontier is another example of this, except this wasn’t created by Taylor Sheridan. There is an interesting connection with Sheridan and its protagonist, Jason Clarke.

Clarke spoke to MovieWeb about his upcoming feature film F.A.S.T., written by Taylor Sheridan:

I’ve known Taylor for a long, long time. I was supposed to be in the original ‘Wind River,’ and it didn’t work out because of dates and times, so I did the second ‘Wind River’, which he actually didn’t produce or direct, and then he gave me a call and said, ‘Look, I’ve got this movie with a part that I’d like you to do.’ I shot my stuff [in] five days, back-to-back. It’s pretty cool.

The Last Frontier has plenty of Sheridan vibes, pitting Clarke’s Frank Remnick against not only a sea of escaped, deranged, and violent criminals but also against a powerful government agency attempting to micromanage visibility into this costly mishap.
