Tempest Season 1: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know

Disney+’s most ambitious K-drama yet, Tempest, is all set to blend espionage, political intrigue, and romance altogether. Releasing on September 10, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu, the show is directed by Kim Hee-won, known for his works in Queen of Tears and Vincenzo.

The show stars Jun Ji-hyun as diplomat Mun-ju and Gang Dong-won as a mysterious agent caught in a deadly conspiracy. Joining them are John Choo, Park Hae-joon, Yoo Jae-myung, Christopher Gorham, Michael Gaston, Kim Hae-sook, Lee Mi-sook, and others.

This nine-episode series is reportedly one of Disney’s most expensive Korean productions to date, with a ₩70 billion budget.

When Will Tempest Release?

Tempest is all set to officially premiere on September 10, 2025. The first three episodes will release on the same day at 12.01 am ET on Hulu and Disney+. The remaining six episodes will be released weekly, leading up to the two-part finale on October 1, 2025.

Disney+’s upcoming K-drama boasts a stellar cast blending Korean and international stars. In the lead roles are Jun Ji-hyun as Seo Mun-ju, playing a respected diplomat, and Gang Dong-won as Baek San-ho, a mysterious mercenary.

Joining them are John Cho as Anderson Miller, playing the US deputy secretary of state; Lee Mi-sook as Lim Ok-seon, portraying an ambitious shipping chairwoman; and Park Hae-joon as presidential candidate Jang Jun-ik.

What is Tempest All About?

A high-stakes spy romance K-drama, Tempest features international conspiracies, political tension, and emotional depth under one gripping story. The official synopsis, as per Hulu, reads,

After discovering the candidate was accused of being a North Korean spy, Munju digs into his past, unlocking a Pandora’s box of deception, state secrets, and more.

The show follows Seo Mun-ju, a brilliant yet fearless former UN ambassador whose life turns dangerous when she crosses paths with Baek San-ho, a mysterious mercenary with a dark past.

After a deadly attack that shakes South Korea, the two join forces but soon find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that reaches all the way to the White House. However, Mun-ju soon becomes the target of the powerful enemies as she keeps digging for the truth. While San-ho is by her side to protect her, his own dark secrets question his loyalty.
