Cillian Murphy joined Taylor Swift and other guests on The Graham Norton Show, in which fans learned something new and quite interesting about the Irish actor. Apparently, Murphy began his career as a musician, confirming he was offered a five-album deal.
As he went on explaining, he turned to Swift, and despite the inaudible sound, she seemed quite interested to know the whole story. Watch the video clip below:

It was also very timely as Swift just released another album, and now, fans will certainly try to find and check out songs from Murphy’s old band. If you’re curious, it’s called The Sons of Mr. Green Genes.
Before Oscars Success, Cillian Murphy Started His Career as a Musician
Murphy was already a huge star before he appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. He was known for playing Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, Jonathan Crane in the Batman
Most fans would never have thought of Murphy as a musician. He rarely talks about it in public, at least about his former band, but his love for music continues to be a source of creative inspiration for him.
In his teens to early 20s, he was in a band with his brother Paidi. They were offered a lucrative five-album deal, but later turned it down because Paidi was still in school. Murphy did not regret rejecting the tempting offer because, in a way, it would mean he would sign his life and music away to a record label.
Murphy was encouraged by his teacher to pursue acting, though his mind was set on becoming a rock star. Even if it didn’t work out for him, he looks back at it with so much fondness. Speaking with The Irish Times, he shared:
Music was my first love. I had ambitions to be a musician way, way before I ever thought about becoming an actor.
This glimpse of Murphy’s life from the past certainly interests many fans, but the man has always been destined for success, and he found it in the acting business.
Why Murphy No Longer Wants to Pursue Music Despite Immense Fame
Now that Murphy is globally famous, most would wonder why he never thought of returning to his roots. In a candid conversation with NME, the 49-year-old Cork native said:
I just never thought that I was good enough really. It’s why I haven’t, you know, pursued the music either. I like to do one thing quite well.
It’s a shame we won’t be hearing new songs from him or his now-defunct band. Of course, fans can always look up their old songs on the Internet and give them a listen.
