Task Episode 5 Recap: Why House of the Dragon Fans Will Hate Its New Twist

By Paul Hernandez 10/06/2025

Things got a little clearer this time in HBO’s Task after the mystery of the secret informant was unveiled in Episode 5. From the get-go, viewers were already left guessing who could be the mole secretly feeding inside information to the Dark Hearts gang. Apparently, Fabien Frankel did it again.

His character, Anthony Grasso, already became the subject of interest after Episode 3’s ending. After what Criston Cole did in House of the Dragon, viewers might have been expecting a little character development, but it seems like Frankel is stuck playing the same kind of television villain.

Task Episode 5 Confirmed a Long-Standing Theory About Fabien Frankel’s Character

Episode 5 was undoubtedly surprising for some fans, but for those who also watch House of the Dragon, the revelation of the secret informant might not have been too shocking.

Apparently, Frankel’s Grasso had been speaking to one of the members of the Dark Hearts, Jayson, and feeding him confidential details about the group of thieves and even information about the FBI’s meeting.

At this point, it is unknown why Grasso is betraying his team, but this is what the next two episodes should be about. Fans have already noticed that something was fishy about him in the earlier episodes, and clues might have been there, too.

Nothing frustrates viewers than the fact that Frankel’s Grasso is following in the footsteps of Cole, and if fans hated his House of the Dragon role, we can surely expect they’ll do the same with his Task character, unless he redeems himself towards the end.

Fabien Frankel Is Earning a Notorious Record of Playing Villains

Cole’s heel turn in House of the Dragon did not fare well for the actor. He revealed getting threats and hate messages when he was only doing his job and brilliantly portraying the villainous character. Cole initially earned the adoration of fans, but halfway through the series, he became the most hated man in Westeros.

This forced Frankel to limit his fan interactions on social media. Now that he’s playing another murky character who turned out to be a mole, he’s set himself up again for another wave of intense reaction from the public.

Fans should always remember to separate the actor from his screen roles. The wild response is just proof of how good he is at embodying morally complex and wicked characters, so instead of attacking him, fans should praise his performance.

Hopefully, Frankel won’t be typecast to this sort of role because he’s definitely got the acting range. Whatever happens to his Task character at the end of the series, we can surely expect a phenomenal act.
