South Park Season 27 Episode 5, originally set to air on Wednesday, September 17, has been officially delayed by one week. It will now premiere on Wednesday, September 24, at 10 PM ET/PT on Comedy Central. The episode will be available for streaming on Paramount+ the next day, on September 25, 2025.
The delay was confirmed by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who issued a last-minute statement (via The Hollywood Reporter):
Apparently when you do everything at the last minute, sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!
This marks the fourth delay in Season 27 following the premiere episode, episode 2, and episode 4. However, the show has already adopted a biweekly release schedule.
South Park Season 27 Episode 5 Delay Could Be Related to Charlie Kirk Assassination
While the official reason is production-related, the timing of the delay has raised some doubts. Episode 5 was scheduled to be the first since the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10. The event has sparked significant political discourse.
Kirk was parodied in Episode 2 of the current season, titled Got a Nut, where Eric Cartman becomes a right-wing podcaster styled after Kirk. The episode featured mock awards like “The Charlie Kirk Award for Young Masterdebaters” and depicted Cartman mimicking Kirk’s hairstyle and persona.
Following Kirk’s death, Comedy Central pulled the episode from a planned rerun but kept it available on Paramount+. The network has not commented on whether the assassination influenced the delay of Episode 5, but the timing is notable. South Park is known for its fast-paced production that reflects current events, and creators may be reworking the episode’s content in response.
South Park Season 27 New Release Schedule
Comedy Central has released the updated airing schedule for the remainder of Season 27, though all dates remain tentative (via The Hollywood Reporter). Here’s the current South Park Season 27 airing schedule:
All episodes air on Comedy Central at 10 PM ET/PT and stream on Paramount+ the following day.
Episode 5 was expected to continue further development of Eric Cartman’s role as a MAGA podcaster, as well as the ongoing storyline involving Donald Trump and the buzz around Satan’s pregnancy. Given South Park’s fast turnaround and tendency to respond to current events, the episode could’ve possibly addressed the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
While the delay is officially blamed on last-minute production challenges, the real reason may be more complex. With South Park walking a fine line between satire and real-world controversy, Episode 5 is shaping up to be another one of the most anticipated episodes.
