Ryan Reynolds’ Comment on Having 3 Boys With Blake Lively Sparks Fan Outrage

By John Gonzalez 10/11/2025

Ryan Reynolds canʼt really joke his way out of this one. During his recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, his unhinged comment on having three boys with his wife, Blake Lively, instead of three girls has sparked a new wave of fan outrage and backlash for him.

On the late-night talk show, Reynolds talked about how his youngest child, son Olin, is, as compared to his three daughters, who are all older than Olin. The Deadpool star said (via Late Night with Seth Meyers on YouTube),

There was nothing violent in our home. There’s nothing creepy. That kid [referring to his son, Olin] came out with three things on his mind: It was violence, breasts, and engines. And I really don’t understand where this comes from.

Continuing, he joked about how, if he had three boys first with Lively instead of three girls, he would have given himself “a punching vasectomy.” Eek. Read his exact comment below:

If I had 3 boys at first- I would never, there’s no way. I would give myself a punching vasectomy. Like, there’s no way that I would allow that to happen. So, yeah. Three girls, oh, just so easy. And then just the boy, who’s like, ‘Gotta break everything.’

When Seth Meyers continued the joke to ask him if his daughters collectively felt like it’s an “HR issue” that he has added a boy to the family, Reynolds said with a shocked and amused expression on his face:

I do! I’m, like, in direct competition with this young man.

Ryan Reynolds obviously made all these comments to garner some laughs from the audience. But while he did succeed in earning a few nervous chuckles, Reynolds’ comments have since gone on to earn him significant backlash from fans worldwide.

Fans Arenʼt Happy With Ryan Reynoldsʼ Disturbing Comments

Besides his joke about having three boys with Lively, Reynolds also shared his own childhood story, having grown up in a house full of boys. His parents, Tammy Reynolds and James “Jim” Chester Reynolds, had four sons: Jeff, Jerry, Patrick, and the actor, being the youngest. Recalling how he was in his childhood, the Green Lantern

star said,

I mean, like, when I was 8, I’m not making this up. I knew how to patch drywall. That right there says a lot. Like, I knew how to, literally, a hole in the wall, I could repair that in less than six minutes before my dad got home, perfectly. Like spackle, sand, and paint, we’re good.

He then proceeded to talk about how hard it was to grow up with four boys, since he was basically “a moving target that they would use.” Reynolds said,

Do you know how many times my brothers had me exit a room, not through the door? I was a moving target that they would use. You know, cops, what they would use when they’re breaking into the place with a battering ram, that was my head. I was the ram.

Well, Ryan Reynolds is pretty infamous for his unhinged jokes about anything and everything. However, amidst the ongoing fire that has engulfed his wife due to her unprofessional and trolling behavior pointed out from multiple past interviews, now even Reynolds is facing fan backlash over his latest comments.

For one, multiple fans have been taking to X to share their disappointed reactions to the same, deeming his comments disturbing and cringeworthy. Take a look at what some of them have to say:

It takes a real douchebag like #RyanReynolds to turn the natural process of breastfeeding; which EVERY BABY IN THE WORLD IS "OBSESSED" WITH BC IT'S THEIR SURVIVAL into something creepy. Fk this arsonist psycho narc. https://t.co/fnnhKO09Po via @DailyMailCeleb

He's insane not funny

hes not even funny

They need to go away for a long long time

This is so cringe 🤢 Nothing Ryan is saying is funny. Where is Colin Hanks? Why isn’t he doing the press tour? This is about John Candy and I’m sure Colin would do a much better job #ryanreynolds #johncandy pic.twitter.com/iNncFSu8tp

The effort to connect with other parents fell flat

I can't believe he used to be one of my top three favorite actors. I hate you, Mean Lantern. And your stupid wife

Him and whatshername are the worst, most rambling interviewees in the history of interviews. @VancityReynolds needs to find a career that suits him, somewhere out of the public eye. His schtick is beyond tiresome.

Ugh I can’t stand him now, his voice and face just makes me wanna pic.twitter.com/Piv7GMGKlA

Judging from these comments, it’s clear that, even though fans might be used to all the sarcastic jokes the Deadpool & Wolverine star makes, this time around, he might as well have taken it a bit too far.

Meanwhile, Blake Lively Called Her Son “Romantic” on the Same Show

While his own comments are earning him backlash, what’s further making Ryan Reynolds’ comments not okay is the fact that, before him, on the same show, his wife, Blake Lively, was seen gushing about their son as she called him a “romantic.” And yes, this is the very child whom Reynolds feels he is in “direct competition” with.

During her May appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the A Simple Favor star raved on about Olin, saying,

My little boy is so romantic. When I walk in, he goes, ‘Mama, my love!’ Oh, he’s just a dream. I mean, like, they’re chaos. It’s chaos at all times. He just announces that I’m the love of his life at all times, which is, like, just the best feeling in the world.

She then also proceeded to joke about how she makes her wardrobe choices each morning on what her son might like, not even mentioning her husband. Lively said,

I get dressed every day like a girl in middle school, and I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I hope he thinks I’m [giggles and blushes]… I hope he, like, you know, says something.

Either way, with his mother swooning while gushing in love and praise of him and his father seeing him as his ‘direct competition’, we can only imagine what the young baby Olin’s future might look like (pun intended).
