By Andrew Jones 10/10/2025

Evolving in his career, from starring in Magic Mike, to sharing the screen with Sandra Bullock in The Lost City, and finally playing the role of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum has now traced his way back to the big screen with Roofman. Released on October 10, 2025, the film is based on a shocking true story of Jeffrey Manchester.

Naturally, fans are already excited about the film, and some are even eager to know when they’ll be able to stream Roofman from home. Well so far, Roofman is only showing in theaters, with tickets available on Fandango. Digital or streaming release dates are yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected to arrive on Paramount+ in the coming months.

If we go by the recent Paramount releases, like The Naked Gun, Novocaine, and even the Smurfs movie, we’ll get to analyze the potential date for Roofman’s digital and streaming release. Like Liam Neeson’s movie, it began streaming on Paramount+ around two months after opening in theaters.

The table contains basic details on Paramount movies’ streaming dates:

Novocaine began streaming on Paramount+ on May 13, 2025, following its theatrical release on March 14, 2025. Later on, the animated film, Smurfs became available for streaming release on September 16, 2025, on Paramount+, after its theatrical release on July 18, 2025. So, based on this pattern, fans might get to stream Roofman around December 9, 2025.

Which Real-Life Story is Channing Tatum’s New Movie B ased On

Meanwhile, as for the premise of Channing Tatum’s new movie, Roofman is based on the unbelievable true story of Jeffrey Manchester. He was the man who had famously robbed a series of McDonald’s restaurants, and after escaping prison, he hid himself in a Toys “R” Us store for months, to evade the police.

And surprisingly, he did manage to hide from the police while sleeping, eating, and surviving inside the store, without anyone noticing. How? Because he carefully adjusted the security cameras so he could stay unseen by the staff, while turning a hidden corner behind a bicycle display into his little home, with inflatable furniture and Peanut M&Ms.

And so, directed by Derek Cianfrance, Roofman shows how Jeffrey Manchester cleverly outsmarts the store’s cameras, and sneaks around unseen, while evading police. The movie captures his strange mix of genius and desperation, a man who broke the law but also found creative ways to survive.

But again, just like many “based on true story” films, Roofman also adds a few fictional twists to make the story more dramatic and emotional. For example, the movie introduces Leigh, played by Kirsten Dunst, as a store employee who catches Jeffrey’s attention. In real life, though, Leigh didn’t work at Toys “R” Us; they met at church.

Another new character, Steve, played by Lakeith Stanfield, is a mix of different real people from Jeffrey’s past. But despite Cianfrance’s changes and tweaks that were added to help the movie explore Jeffrey’s human side, Roofman effectively showed Jeffrey’s intelligence and ingenuity, with utmost authenticity.

Absurd Details About Roofman That Remain Factually Accurate

Meanwhile, for all the changes that Roofman went through, the movie did a pretty decent job of staying close to the real story in many wild ways. Like, one of the most shocking details that appear in the film is when we see Jeffrey Manchester burning down a dentist’s office to cover his tracks.

Now, even though the scene seemed a bit dramatic and far-fetched, as if added for entertainment purposes, it actually happened. Jeffrey did burn down a dentist’s office. This particular moment in the film proved that sometimes reality can be stranger than fiction. It showed how far Jeffrey went to keep his secret life hidden.

Another true detail involves Jeffrey’s strange double life with Leigh. In the movie, their relationship seems emotional and risky, and feels like it was added for romantic purposes. But in real life, Jeffrey did actually pretend to be someone named “John Zorn,” told Leigh he worked for the government, and even spent time with her kids.

So, amid all, what makes Roofman even more interesting is how it shows Jeffrey’s polite and caring nature. He wasn’t violent or cruel. In fact, during his robberies, he asked McDonald’s employees to put on their coats before locking them in the freezer. That part is 100% true, according to reports from the LA Times.

Despite being a criminal, Jeffrey Manchester was known as “the gentleman robber,” a man whose bizarre story got immortalized by Channing Tatum and Derek Cianfrance, which left fans fascinated.
