In the final episode of Peacemaker Season 2, John Cena’s Peacemaker goes through various doors, and James Gunn had the funniest idea. Wanting to cast Ryan Reynolds in the role of Deadpool, Gunn revealed (via IGN) that he even talked it out with Ryan Reynolds.
Yeah, I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room. And I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it, but I think we would’ve had to go through some pretty big hoops to do that! He wanted to do it.
The director further stated that he regretted telling the audience about it now because that’s all that anyone’s ever going to talk about.
That’s all anybody’s going to talk about now. Is fu*king Deadpool in the other room? I should have never said it!
Well, although Gunn would have to go through several hula-hoops just to get the cameo of Deadpool in Peacemaker, he has already made the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon in his DCU!
James Gunn Has Already Made the MCU Canon in the DCU
Before talks of Deadpool in the DCU, James Gunn had already made the MCU canon in his DCU. In season 2 of Peacemaker, the sixth episode featured Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, meeting his doppelganger. Upon meeting, they both point at each other in a similar fashion to that comic panel of Spider-Man in Marvel comics.
The doppelganger and Vigilante say, “We Spider-Man meme’d,”. This proves the existence of Spider-Man in the DCU and, naturally, a universe where the Marvel comics, characters, and movies are fiction while the DCU heroes are real.
Naturally, if James Gunn has already included the Marvel fandom in his cinematic universe, having a cameo from Deadpool could have been great for a potential crossover in the future. With Gunn wanting the universes to collide eventually, he would not have found a better character than Deadpool and a better actor than Ryan Reynolds to do that.
