Good news for the people who are waiting for the upcoming much-anticipated K-pop movie, as Yoo Ji-tae, Tony Revolori, and Gia Kim have been confirmed to join the cast of the upcoming movie.
With Benson Lee helming the film as its director, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Money Heist star Yoo Ji-tae, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tony Revolori, and XO, Kitty star Gia Kim have signed on for the roles, based on a script by Eileen Shim (House of the Dragon).
Alongside these new joined stars, Ji-young Yoo and Eric Nam had been earlier confirmed for the film.
The Film is a “Love Letter to K-pop,” Says Director Benson Lee
In a previous statement to THR, director Benson Lee (who is known for movies like Battle of the Year, Seoul Searching, and Planet B-Boy) had revealed that the film will be a love letter to the brilliant world of K-pop.
The director stated that he was simply mesmerized by the energy of the fans and the celebration of K-pop that people have around the world, which drove him to helm the film as its director.
This film is my love letter to K-pop – its energy, passion, magic and the incredible community behind it.
The Benson Lee-directed film will be the first major motion American picture that will be entirely shot in South Korea (with Hybe America joining Paramount Pictures for the film).
Although the film hasn’t been titled yet, the plot of the K-pop film has been revealed, and the story looks quite intriguing. It’s a twist on the classic trope of a young person trying to make it big in a scary world.
What’s The Premise of This Untitled K-pop film?
Well, although the film is entirely shot in South Korea, the core premise of this untitled K-pop film involves a young Korean-American woman defying all the odds in hopes of finding the next K-pop girl group.
According to THR, the official logline of the upcoming film reads:
The film centers around a young Korean-American woman, who defies her family’s wishes to compete in a televised competition to find the next K-pop girl group.
Of course, there’s much buzz amongst fans of K-pop since they have been getting several gifts in recent times, like K-pop Demon Hunters (alongside the sing-along version) and the debut of K-pop-inspired American girl group Katseye.
The untitled K-pop film is currently in the pre-production stage of development, but fans are already hyped for the watch.
