Only Murders in the Building just dropped in its Season 5, Episode 4 titled Dirty Birds. And yes, our goofball crime investigators are in trouble! Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Oliver’s (Martin Short) promising 3-year partnership with Wondify quickly unravels, revealing itself as a costly trap set by Jay Pflug, Sebastien Steed, and Camila White.
At first, they believe the billionaires are merely more of Nicky’s (Bobby Cannavale) victims, but soon realize the tables have turned, and they’re the ones being outplayed.
The Hulu show is making rounds for its plot, which covers Arconia’s doorman, Lester’s mysterious death. Hailed as an accident by the official authorities, Charles, Mabel, and Oliver will get to the core to find who killed their beloved man. So, let’s rewind a bit to where Episode 4 kicked off and how it landed with hopelessness in the trio’s eyes.
What Do Lester’s Bird Codes Reveal in Only Murders in the Building?
Only Murders in the Building, Season 5, Episode 4, takes a step ahead in revealing the investigation behind Lester’s death after Episode 3. The trio Charles, Mabel, and Oliver are seen accompanied by Vince Fish, a resident of the west tower, who is revealed to be Lester’s birding buddy.
Lester’s quirky birding codes reveal each suspect is tied to a feathered alias, from Nicky’s Brown-headed Cowbird to Steed’s Kākāpō, amongst others! Through Lester’s notes, suspicions rise, specifically around the mystery of Jay Pflug’s missing finger.
Mabel comes up with an idea to get his attention by letting him know that the trio is onto him. The trio releases a podcast teaser, which gets them a dinner with the nepo-kid, Jay Pflug (Logan Lerman).
Could Jay Pflug’s Dinner Be Hiding More Than We Know?
The stage is set at Oliver’s apartment, where Jay Pflug arrives, only for Camila White (Renée Zellweger) and Bash Steed (Christoph Waltz) to crash the evening! The two sets of trios talk it out, and the prime question remains – How did Pflug lose his finger?
Charles, Mabel, and Oliver divide, attending Steed, Pflug, and White personally. They strike up a conversation, asking each of the billionaires about the finger. It’s eventually revealed that Jay had been trying to protect everyone from Nicky’s violent behaviour, putting this chapter of the mystery to rest for now.
Meanwhile, Mabel, who is both jealous and heartbroken due to Althea, meets her with Oliver in the lobby. The three are joined by LESTR, the robot, and Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton).
In a good and embarrassing laugh, the Robot reveals the truths, which seemingly hurt Mabel. She defends their podcast, saying that they have acquired a deal with Wondify!
In a heated moment, Mabel inadvertently reveals the truth behind the lie to Jay Pflug during what seems like a heartfelt conversation. She doesn’t realize that it has already backfired on her!
The trio receives an email from Wondify about being signed up! The trio celebrates at the office, signing the Wondify contract, unaware of the consequences
Mabel discovers that they have been played after she finds a clue about the finger theory. The Wondify associates tell them that they cannot work against the investors after the trio decides to take down the billionaires.
The episode ends on a nail-biter. From the trio’s expressions, it’s evident the billionaires are somehow involved. It will be intriguing to see what the hefty money-makers are really on!
