One The Summer I Turned Pretty Death Theory Will Ruin the Book’s Ending

Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will soon give us the finale that no one saw coming. Sure, there are several angles we can think of how it can end, but there’s one particular theory that can entirely shift the game. Well, it’s Conrad’s (Christopher Briney) death.

While Jenny Han had already revealed that the show would not conclude as per the books, where Belly (Lola Tung) gets married to Conrad, Season 3 has already taken bold turns. As Han said (via Elite Daily)

I always knew how I wanted to end the books. But with the show, I went into it with an open mind… I wanted to approach it with fresh eyes and just see what sort of magic happened on screen.

Now, with that in mind, I am eagerly waiting to see what “magic” Han will bring to the messy yet curious characters of Jeremiah, Belly, and Conrad. But before the finale drops, let’s explore the idea of Conrad’s death, which honestly feels like a possibility.

How Can The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Might End?

Let’s get real now, Jenny Han has already made up her mind and made it absolutely clear that the show won’t end exactly like her books. Though she has left the doors open for every possibility, be it devastating or happening, fans can’t stop guessing what it can be, especially since the finale is so close.

In the novels, Belly ends up marrying Conrad after years of back-and-forth. However, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 decided to rip that conclusion apart. And the theory says, Han plans to destroy our hearts just like Jeremiah and Conrad’s by giving us a major character death. What else can it be? She has given a happy ending in the books, so clearly, that’s out of the picture, and we are left with something that could rip our expectations. Hence, Conrad’s death.

Moreover, in the trailer, Belly’s line “Life’s too short to not spend it with the person you love,” suddenly bespeaks a tragic undertone if Conrad doesn’t make it. Instead of Belly walking down the aisle toward Conrad, we can be staring at a finale where his absence defines her future, and the rest of the characters.

Will it be heartbreaking? Absolutely. But it would definitely add layers of emotional depth that books have never explored. Just imagine Belly grappling not with the choice between Jeremiah and Conrad, but with the grief of losing one forever. And on top of it, Conrad’s death will shatter the love triangle that the whole show was basically based on. It would be unforgettable, unforgiving, yet an ending that will linger long after the credits roll.

Is There a Possibility Belly Ends Up with Jeremiah?

Another huge and expected possibility could be Belly ending up with Jeremiah after all. In the books and The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, their engagement falls apart; however, that doesn’t mean the door is shut forever. Sometimes, for the happily ever after, you first have to live apart. Moreover, Jeremiah has been constant in Belly’s life, unlike Conrad.

Of course, calling off a wedding was a huge heartbreak (though it was expected somewhere after Conrad’s heartfelt confession to Belly), but it could also be an experience that makes them stronger. In the entirety of their relationship, Belly and Jeremiah had a reliable presence for each other, but a time apart can clear out the lingering feelings or doubts. Since Belly moved to Paris and Jeremiah got a job at his dad’s firm, both might find new maturity and clarity.

Just think, it’s always been about the love triangle- Belly choosing Jeremiah or Conrad. In the books, she chooses Conrad, but to twist things up, this time, she will choose Jeremiah yet again, giving fans an unexpected ending, especially after they just broke things off.

Since the beginning, Jeremiah’s been an option for Belly, but this time, he can finally be the boy whom Belly chooses, finally and forever.
