Expectations were sky-high for One Punch Man Season 3, especially since fans had to wait over six years for it. The season was also set to adapt one of the most hyped arcs in anime history. But to rain on everyone’s parade, Season 3 director Shinpei Nagai himself claimed that fans shouldn’t expect too much from this season, and certainly shouldn’t compare it to the previous ones.
It might not please you or could even make you angry. But someone has to take it on. I am determined and ready to do so. It probably won’t measure up to season 1.
Replying to a fan comment who expressed excitement for Season 3, Nagai broke the ice by saying it would be nowhere near as good as Season 1. He mentioned that he knew someone had to take on the project, so despite the production issues, he accepted the job, fully aware of the challenges ahead.
But the film is infused with the creators’ tenacity and ingenuity. Please, at the very least, accept that.
However, Nagai also expressed some faith in Season 3, hoping it would at least be watchable for viewers. The studio behind it, J.C. Staff, might not be perfect, but according to Nagai, they’ve done their best to make it work.
Director Shinpei Nagai Expresses Concern For the Employees at JC Staff
Nagai pointed out how many skilled creators have moved to bigger studios backed by large corporations, leaving smaller ones struggling to keep up. Despite that, Nagai made it clear that he still wants to stand by J.C. Staff – a studio he believes is genuinely trying to improve work conditions and help its employees grow.
Nowadays, there are many companies flush with funding from big corporations. Much of the talent has been drawn to those places. But as I keep saying, I want to support JC Staff, which is working to improve labor conditions and nurture its employees.
He also addressed the growing online pressure and harsh comments directed at the staff. So he even begged fans to tone it down. According to Nagai, there are things he simply can’t talk about due to NDAs, and the constant harassment only makes things harder for everyone involved.
Some general info on One Punch Man Season 3:
It’s commendable how he’s not just defending the project but also the people behind it. Still, fans did not deserve this subpar adaptation, and any reason given to them will come off as an excuse – even after what the director had to say.
Will One Punch Man Season 3 Save the Best for the Season Finale?
Sure, just hoping won’t magically fix things, but it’s never a bad idea to stay a little optimistic. Who knows? Maybe J.C. Staff is quietly saving their best work for the big finale of One Punch Man Season 3.
After all, the Monster Association vs Heroes showdown near the end of the season has the potential to be absolutely legendary. If the studio manages to pull off those insane manga panels with the right energy, it could still turn everything around. What do you think? Could that actually happen?
One Punch Man Season 3 is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
