Chapter 1162 of One Piece is around the corner, and the leaks have revealed that Imu has entered the battlefield by possessing Saturn. It ended the chapter with Rocks D. Xebec, Whitebeard, and Kaido (who had just gotten his Devil Fruit) getting ready to fight against them.
However, there is significant doubt that Rocks D. Xebec will manage to beat Imu in the upcoming chapters. His Devil Fruit still hasn’t been revealed to us in One Piece, but none of them should have been able to counter Imu’s powers, at least from whatever we’ve seen of it. Considering he is dead in the present timeline and nearly erased from history, it’s also safe to say he did not come out victorious.
Rocks D. Xebec Couldn’t Have Had the Devil Fruit to Counter Imu’s Powers
Since his first mention in Chapter 957 and full appearance in Chapter 1154, Rocks D. Xebec’s Devil Fruit has remained one of the biggest mysteries in One Piece. We’ve seen hints of how it works after he became actively involved in Loki’s backstory.
From easily cutting large structures to transporting people, it operates similarly to Trafalgar Law’s Ope Ope no Mi. In Chapter 1162, Rocks also seems to have pierced Garling in a way that doesn’t seem normal, not even for the Ope Ope no Mi. He was previously able to subdue Kaido in the same way. Thus, his Devil Fruit is more combat-oriented, other than the transportation part.
Imu’s powers, on the other hand, are complicated. They can transform into a demonic creature, summon weapons with their grimoire, and, their most dangerous ability, turn their targets into demons. The last one is called Domi Reversi, and we saw them use it against the Davy Clan members.
The only Devil Fruit that could nullify Imu’s powers is the Yami Yami no Mi. However, this all depends on whether they get it from a Devil Fruit. The hidden monarch may be a real demonic being, especially since their body and voice transcend humanity. They can even communicate with the Five Elders and the God’s Knights with telepathy and possess them.
Thus, Rocks D. Xebec has a slim chance to win against Imu through his Devil Fruit. He’s powerful, stronger than a typical human, and even has Conqueror’s Haki. However, if that was enough, he would’ve fought Imu in their garden, where the chaos of God Valley wasn’t present to distract him.
Which Devil Fruit Could Rocks Possibly Have Had in One Piece?
There have been several theories about Rocks D. Xebec’s Devil Fruit circulating, even before his full appearance. A legendary pirate like him deserves a powerful one that fits his legacy. Thus, the Yami Yami no Mi and the Ope Ope no Mi are the strongest contenders.
However, Rocks could’ve had other Devil Fruits, too. Here’s a list of the ones we believe are possible, from least to most likely:
The Mero Mero no Mi is the least likely of the lot, as Rocks’ powers have never demonstrated that ability. The Hoshi Hoshi no Mi is a poetic theory and gives him an original Devil Fruit.
The Bara Bara no Mi makes sense because whenever Rocks cuts through structures, it emits the same sound as when Buggy uses it. However, it wouldn’t explain how he was able to teleport people.
Thus, Rocks D. Xebec most likely had either the Yami Yami no Mi or the Ope Ope no Mi. Eiichiro Oda still has a chance to create a new one for him. What we can agree on is that he’s not winning against Imu with what we’ve seen him do so far in One Piece.
