Nico Robin is confirmed to be able to read Poneglyphs, which puts her in a vulnerable position in One Piece; however, another character also has the same potential: Charlotte Pudding. She’s a hybrid between a human, through Big Mom, and a member of the Three-Eye Tribe. If she awakens the powers of the latter half of her heritage, she can potentially read Poneglyphs.
In Chapter 1064’s cover story, Blackbeard Pirates’ Van Augur and Kuzan kidnap Pudding. The reason behind it must have been her rare race type, and what it can do.
Moreover, Blackbeard parades her around like a prize in Hachinosu, while her family despairs over her. This invokes striking parallels to Shakuyaku’s kidnapping during God Valley. Is One Piece hinting at a second version of the horrific incident?
Pudding’s Innate Poneglyph Reading Ability Puts Her in Grave Danger
Nico Robin has been hunted down by the Marines and World Government since she was a child, just because she can read Poneglyphs and learning the truth of the Void Century makes her a threat to their reign. Now that they are needed to find Laugh Tale, the location of the One Piece, pirates will also be scrambling to kidnap her from the Straw Hat Pirates.
The only people who were capable of reading Poneglyphs in One Piece were the scholars of Ohara, of which Robin was a part, the Kozuki clan, and people with unique powers. The Three-Eye Tribe is one of them. As the name suggests, they have a third eye on their forehead, which could potentially unlock Voice of All Things.
Pudding’s entire purpose in the Big Mom Pirates was to awaken this ability to help her mother find the One Piece. However, there’s no confirmed way to trigger it, and a hybrid has a slim chance. Still, even the potential to read Poneglyphs puts any crew she belongs to at an advantage.
Since Robin is under the protection of the Straw Hat Pirates, Eiichiro Oda needed a different Poneglyph reader to target. Pudding was the perfect substitute for her. She poses the same threat to the World Government and is an easier target for pirates.
The Parallels Between Shakuyaku and Pudding’s Kidnappings in One Piece
For years, we didn’t know the reason behind God Valley’s chaos until the recent chapters of One Piece. Shakuyaku, who was renowned and admired for her beauty, was kidnapped and sold as the ultimate prize at the Native Hunting Competition. People around the world cried, and the economy collapsed.
Similarly, when Pudding was kidnapped, the panels of Charlotte Brulee crying in despair over the incident mirrored how the public reacted to Shakuyaku. Although she isn’t regarded for her beauty on the same scale, she does have a love interest: Sanji, who wouldn’t hesitate to help if he found out she was in danger. This would be the perfect knight in shining armor moment.
In this regard, Hachinosu might become ground zero for another God Valley-like incident. Despite how large the Charlotte family is, they will attempt to rescue her, just like the Whitebeard Pirates did with Ace. Since Blackbeard is also Rocks’ son, the timing and location would be poetic.
Kuzan, who is potentially a traitor, might also leak the information about Pudding’s location, paralleling what Ginny did in God Valley. Lastly, if Morgans gets wind of it, the news about Pudding will spread in no time. After all, she is Big Mom’s daughter. If her Poneglyph reading ability is also exposed, all hell will break loose.
