The Devil Fruit powers of Monkey D. Luffy have been one of the biggest mysteries of One Piece, and recent manga chapters have hinted that they might be connected to Shanks’ past from God Valley. One Piece Chapter 1159 confirmed that Shanks was, in fact, born in God Valley, and his mother was evidently killed by Figarland Garling.
The one who saved him was Monkey D. Dragon, as he transferred him into a Devil Fruit treasure box. If Eiichiro Oda plans on making this development official, it is safe to assume that Dragon ate the Devil Fruit present in the Shanks’ treasure box. Thus, Dragon’s Devil Fruit is connected to Shanks, and sooner or later, One Piece fans will get to see the full might of its power within the story.
Dragon’s Devil Fruit May Link to Shanks’ God Valley Discovery
The One Piece narrative confirmed long ago that Shanks was discovered by Gol D. Roger in a treasure box that he evidently took during the God Valley Incident. However, other than that, the story didn’t give many details about Shanks’ past. Then we found out that Shanks is, in fact, Figarland Garling’s son, but he chose to be a pirate and fulfill some kind of destiny.

Now, the recently released chapter 1159 disclosed that Shanks’ mother was a native of God Valley, and she was stabbed by Garling, who wanted to take both Shanks and Shamrock to Marie Geoise. But the plan somehow failed, and Shanks’ mother handed over their responsibility to Dragon, who was just a Marine soldier at the time present at God Valley in One Piece.
While the chapter did not confirm this, Dragon was most likely the character who placed Shanks into a treasure chest and hid it on Roger’s ship. However, the missing Devil Fruit from this chest was possibly eaten by him. As every Devil Fruit presented as a treasure in God Valley was a special and powerful one, it gave Dragon his mysterious powers that will be revealed soon.
What Is Dragon’s Supposed Devil Fruit in One Piece?

Despite being one of the world’s most wanted men in One Piece, Eiichiro Oda has kept Dragon’s Devil Fruit abilities shrouded in secrecy. However, fans have long speculated that he possesses a powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit that is somehow tied to unusual weather phenomena. His appearances, most notably, during the Loguetown arc, were accompanied by a sudden storm and gust of wind that also allowed Luffy to escape.
Thus, the most popular theory is that Dragon wields a Wind or Storm-based Fruit that grants him control over atmospheric forces. It also aligns with his symbolic developments revolving around freedom and liberation against the World Government in One Piece. Not only that, it would also fit perfectly with his aura as the most wanted man in the world and the father of the main character.
There is no doubt that Monkey D. Dragon’s Devil Fruit reveal will be monumental. The only thing is that the One Piece mangaka has dragged it for so long, fans fear that it might not have as much impact as anticipated.
