Nicole Kidman is currently undergoing her divorce from her husband of 19 years, Keith Urban, and her longtime friend, Naomi Watts, reportedly has some significant advice for her: To be as honest as she can about her breakup with the public. These reports surface amidst speculation that Urban is already romantically involved with a new woman (more on this later).
According to insider reports shared by the Daily Mail, Watts has offered some “clever advice” to Kidman, having reportedly told her “to be as honest as can be with the public and just get it out there and over with so fans can process and move on.” Showing up for her pal during her public divorce, sources also claimed about the Emmanuelle actress,
Nic [Kidman] has been calling Naomi a ton to talk out how she needs to cope with the situation. There has been a lot of advice flowing and Nic listens because Naomi has been through it herself; she had a very public split from Heath Ledger then Liev Schreiber, so she knows how challenging heartbreak in the spotlight can be.
Just like the Babygirl actress, Naomi Watts has also gone through multiple splits in her past (not divorces, though), so she does have a pretty good idea about how challenging public breakups can be. For her part, Kidman officially filed for a divorce from Urban on September 30 in a Tennessee court, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause for the same.
Does Keith Urban Have a New Girlfriend After His Split From Nicole Kidman?
It has barely been two weeks since Nicole Kidman was reported to have filed for a divorce from Keith Urban, and yet, reports are already surfacing that the country singer-songwriter has made a new girlfriend. It’s worth noting that the two had been together for two decades and also share two children – daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret – before they called it quits.
As per the latest reports, not only is Urban dating someone new, but even Kidman is said to already know about it. As multiple sources connected to the actress claimed to TMZ,
All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it… It’s all over Nashville.
The spotlight about the same is currently on Maggie Baugh, 25. As the fan commentaries and media speculations have it, the guitarist, who has been touring with Urban, is being seen as a possible person of interest with respect to Kidman’s ex-husband’s alleged new girlfriend (via the National Examiner via Yahoo! News).
Plus, Baugh added fuel to the speculation with the clip she posted on Instagram at the end of September. The video showed Urban changing the lyrics to a song that he had previously dedicated to Kidman, to mention Baugh instead – a move that earned him significant backlash (check out the comment section of the Instagram post).

However, as of this writing, neither Baugh nor Urban nor Kidman has commented on these rumors.
Additionally, previous reports also had it that the Kidman-Urban divorce is “turning dramatic” as the Eyes Wide Shut actress is apparently “hurt and feels betrayed.” A source claimed to PEOPLE,
Keith has not been honest. She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on. It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Baugh appears to have a boyfriend. Urban, on the other hand, had been living separately from Kidman since June, when he moved into his own pad in Nashville. As for his shared daughters with the actress, he will spend 59 days with them, going forward, while their remaining 306 days will be spent with their mother, per the divorce docs.
Meanwhile, Naomi Watts Did Something Similar After Her Own Breakup
Naomi Watts has been a longtime friend of Nicole Kidman. She was also the one holding Kidman’s hand through the tough breakup she underwent back in 2001, when she filed for a divorce from her other ex-husband, Tom Cruise. In fact, she even accompanied the actress to the premiere of The Others, the day before their divorce was finalized (per The Guardian).
While that’s that, Watts herself knows fairly well how to deal with public breakups, having gone through them when she split from Heath Ledger, and then from Liev Schreiber. She was in a long-term relationship with Schreiber from 2005 to 2016, and the pair shares two children that they co-parent together. At the time of their separation, their kids were eight and seven.
In 2016, she opened up about her fallout with Schreiber, confiding to The Daily Telegraph Australia,
I feel I’m in a good place in my life, and I want to make sure my kids are healthy, my kids are happy, and things are going to go well. Those are my hopes for me and for all of us.
At the time, she also acknowledged that undergoing a divorce is indeed a difficult time for anyone and everyone, irrespective of whatever their background may be. Watts said,
I feel whether you’re famous or not, transitions are scary for anybody. I feel like change is always scary, but that’s only because transition for anyone is new, and you wonder how things are going to go.
Needless to say, those are truly some significant words, making it pretty evident just how clearly Watts understands breakups and public splits. Plus, considering how her own kids were pretty young during her separation from Schreiber, it’s very likely that she will be on hand to offer guidance to Kidman about navigating her chance in circumstances with her children.
For those who might not know, Watts and Kidman have been friends for longer than one can imagine, having met as teenagers when they auditioned for the same swimsuit commercial in Sydney. The two have since remained friends, and their bond has only continued to grow stronger over the years, with each acting as the other’s support system.
