Mickie James and WWE Sending Her Belongings in a Trash Bag Story: Did WWE Apologize

By Mike Garcia 10/29/2025

Former WWE Superstar Mickey James was infamously given her belongings in a trash bag when she was released from the company in April 2021. This was the second time she was let go from the Stamford-based promotion. So, how did WWE deal with it, and did it ever apologize to James for this action?

Mickie James recently appeared on the INSIGHT podcast of Chris Van Vliet, where she talked about the incident. She noted that she wasn’t as personally hurt by this action as much as her fans and the WWE Universe in general.

The 46-year-old also stated that this wasn’t the first time it had happened with her, and she was let go from the company for the first time in April 2010 as well. Lastly, James said that she felt bad that Mark Carrano, the man responsible for sending her things in a trash bag, got fired because of it.

I wasn’t as offended as the fans were when it happened, because I don’t think you realize how many times we’ve been offended. I’m so numb to getting my feelings hurt, or I’m so used to, Oh, you got to separate your ego from it, and don’t take it personal. It’s just business…

I remembered in 2010 when I got my stuff back and I got it the same way, and 2010 me was devastated. 2010 me was like, Oh, my God. They think I’m trash. They hate me, they’re throwing me out with the trash, nothing I did mattered. I took it real personal. This time, I didn’t take it personal…

The former five-time WWE Women’s Champion and one-time Divas Champion seems very mellow in her interview with CVV. However, this wasn’t her reaction when she was released four and a half years ago.

How Did Mickie James React to the Trash Bag Situation?

Just a few days after her release, Mickie James took to X and tweeted an image of the trash bag she had received. She tagged ex-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and wrote a sarcastic caption, saying she received her “care package” from the company.

Dear @VinceMcMahon Im not sure if you’re aware, I did receive my @WWE care package today. Thank you. #AlwaysBlessedandGrateful #WomensWrestlingMatters 💋 pic.twitter.com/PyDC7ZC9lG

Two swift actions followed this. One, the man behind the act, former WWE talent relations head Mark Carrano, was terminated. Two, an immediate apology was issued to Mickie James, as well as the other stars who came forward with their stories.

.@MickieJames I am embarrassed you or anyone else would be treated this way. I apologize personally and on behalf of @WWE. The person responsible is no longer with our company. https://t.co/nvN4WsKC0I

Vince McMahon also reached out to James personally, and the former six-time women’s champion said that the ex-head honcho issued a very sincere apology to her. WWE even had the 46-year-old participate in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble while she was signed to TNA.

This was something really big, since Mr. McMahon always liked keeping other promotions out of the programming in his business.

Mickie James on Being Inducted Into the TNA Hall of Fame

Following her release from WWE, James returned to her previous stomping grounds, TNA. The 46-year-old star has a huge following on the promotion and is also a former five-time Knockouts Champion.

This month, James got inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame by Lisa Marie Varon, who formerly wrestled for WWE as Victoria. Speaking about the experience on the Busted Open podcast, James said:

It was surreal. I mean, it was a whirlwind, first of all, because I flew in that day, we had a concert the night before, and so Donovan and I flew in, he was with me, so it was really cool for him to be there and see all of it. I think that he’s still, he’s been around it for so long, he really doesn’t grasp, you know, what it is or that it’s, him to see me get honored that night and to be there was cool for us, you know, maybe a little understanding of like, ‘Oh yeah, mom’s kind of cool sometimes, right?’

But it was just surreal, man… It was a whirlwind, it was busy, and then we’d get out there, and then Lisa, Lisa was the best, the best. But then to go, just go out there, and then to see it, and then the show was awesome, you know, and then, yeah, once it was over, once you come back through the curtain, that’s when I could like sit down and breathe.

James currently works for the WWE as an ambassador. It remains to be seen if she will get her flowers in the Stamford-based promotion and make it to the HOF of the company.
