Techland’s Dying Light: The Beast is finally out, and if you’re already playing the game, you may have thought that Olivia sounds familiar. That’s because she is voiced by Rebecca Hanssen.

Olivia is a mysterious character who guides protagonist Kyle Crane throughout the campaign and in his fight against the monsters. The game is already shaping up to be the most well-reviewed entry in Techland’s franchise. Let’s get to know her better, shall we?
Who is Rebecca Hanssen, and What Other Things Do We Know Her From?
Rebecca Louise Hanssen was born on February 27, 1994, in Stavanger, Norway, before moving to Scotland at the age of four. Growing up in Glasgow, she pursued her acting career in London, where she has since become known for a wide variety of roles across television, film, and games.

For her on-screen performances, you might recognise her as Queen Meve from Netflix’s The Witcher
You may have already seen her in Larian Studios’ award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3, where she played the fan-favorite bard Alfira. She also had additional roles in BG3, including the voices of Yenna and Aurelia. In 2024, she voiced Eve, the lead protagonist in Stellar Blade, which has since become one of the best action games in recent history.
Ciaccona is now available in Wuthering Waves!

Her career hasn’t slowed since. In addition to all these titles, Hanssen’s voice can be heard in major 2025 titles like Lost Soul Aside and Eternal Strands. And now, she voices Olivia in Dying Light: The Beast. But did you know that we almost got a different Baldur’s Gate 3 cast member as Olivia?
Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Samantha Béart Was Originally Considered For the Role
Interestingly, Rebecca Hanssen was not the first actor we heard as Olivia. During the early production of Dying Light: The Beast, a completely different actor was voicing the character. Samantha Béart, best known as Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3, was the original voice cast for the role.
If you watched the first trailer for the game at Summer Game Fest earlier this year, you may have noticed Béart’s voice at the tail end of the gameplay showcase. Béart later revealed that while they recorded material for Olivia, Techland ultimately decided to recast the role before launch.
Béart took the switch in good humor, joking about the oddity of being credited for a trailer but not appearing in the game. In an interview with PCGamesN, Béart explained that they were initially approached to record lines for the character, only to find out later that their work would appear solely in the trailer rather than the final game.
It just goes to show how unpredictable the voice acting industry can be. With Dying Light: The Beast now officially launched on September 18, Rebecca Hanssen’s role as Olivia adds another entry to her growing career. Early reviews of the game are positive, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
