Marrying Nicole Kidman Was His Biggest Achievement, But What Went Wrong in Keith Urban’s Love Life?

By Paul Hernandez 10/11/2025

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are dealing with the cons of being public figures while in the middle of their divorce. Old interviews and videos are being resurfaced, which show exactly how great a loss this is for the couple.

For example, in 2021, Urban sat down for a discussion on the podcast, Living & Learning with Reba McEntire, when he was asked about his “biggest achievement“. Without missing a beat, he replied that finding and marrying the right person for all the right reasons was his biggest achievement and not the career he built.

He stated,

There’s a lot of things. Marrying the right person, massive. Marrying for the right reasons, getting sober 15 years ago, a big turning point in my life.

Before coming across Kidman, Urban admitted that he “never had specific goals” and just wanted to “live in Nashville…write songs, and make some records, and hope the radio plays them.” He added, “Some people come see us play our own music instead of covers that I’m playing. That was it, that was the goal.

So, what happened that things changed so much in a few years that his “massive” achievement is no longer by his side? Apart from infidelity rumors, Urban is reported to be moving on from Kidman with the help of two women by his side – Maggie Baugh and Kelsea Ballerini, which has left his ex-wife “devastated.”

According to a report by Radar Online, not just Kidman, but those close to Urban are also unhappy with him for throwing away the best thing in his life. A source stated,

There’s a lot of anger and disbelief being directed towards Keith right now, not just from Nicole, but also from their friends, who just can’t believe he’d screw up the best thing that ever happened to him.

If the reports are to be believed, the former couple grew apart gradually, with cracks beginning to show in their long relationship over time.

How Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s Relationship Began to Fall Apart

Two decades of being in love later, the spark supposedly began fizzling out in the Urban-Kidman marriage. The actress was 38 years old when she realized that Urban was “the one” when he brought her gardenias for her birthday at 5 a.m. (via People).

They went on to become Hollywood’s picture-perfect couple, but eventually, their demanding careers began taking over their relationship, at least as per reports. An insider told Radar Online, “Nicole and Keith were seeing less and less of each other in recent times, and it felt to a lot of people like they were two ships that passed in the night.”

While they put on smiles, it apparently felt as if they were living a lie. The insider added, “During those periods, they’d still put on a smile, and there was something to promote, but in hindsight, it feels like they were living a bit of a lie. They were clearly in trouble going on in the background.”

Another source confided in Star Magazine, stating that the actress is “devastated” that Urban walked away from the marriage, feeling as though someone had “taken a sledgehammer to her whole world.” While Kidman reportedly did not want her decades-long marriage to end, the source adds, “there was only so much torture she was willing to tolerate.”

The report also claims that Urban and Kidman had been living separate lives for years now after the former “started pulling away several years ago.” As they spent less and less time together, it “resulted in a major loss of intimacy“, which contributed to the relationship’s “downhill trajectory.”

Nicole Kidman’s Putting on a Brave Face Amid the Divorce

You know what they say, ‘The Show Must Go On’, and Nicole Kidman is living proof that come rain, hail, or snow, her work won’t be taking a backseat. In the middle of her divorce, she was seen attending amFAR’s Dallas auction in Texas recently, where she provided Taylor Sheridan with the Award of Inspiration.

A source told PEOPLE, “[Kidman’s] known Taylor for a couple of years. She considers him a dear friend. She enjoyed seeing him again.” The source also added that despite everything, the actress has a “good attitude about everything” and is “happy to be back at work.”

Luckily, Kidman has a lot of support from the people around her, especially her sister, who has been a “rock” for her. The source continued, “the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another“.

Apparently, she was dreading the day her divorce became public news, but now that the cat’s out of the bag, “she’s just focused on what’s ahead and her girls.” Kidman shares two daughters with Urban – Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
