Madelaine Petsch recently recalled an ironic advice from Cole Sprouse about dating co-stars while working together on Riverdale. The actress, who played the role of Cheryl Blossom in the series, revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Petsch shared,
You know what’s really ironic about all this is Cole sat me down during the pilot and was like, “If I can give you one piece of advice, Mads… Don’t Hey, don’t hook up with any of your co-stars, okay?”
Though she admitted that it was the “best advice I’ve ever been given,” Petsch couldn’t help but note the irony, as Sprouse would later go on to date his Riverdale co-star, Lili Reinhart. Despite that, Petsch said she has continued to follow it, revealing that she has never been romantically involved with a co-star.
Cole Sprouse Dated Riverdale Co-Star Lili Reinhart for Nearly Three Years
Cole Sprouse, who led the hit The CW series Riverdale alongside KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes, might have advised Petsch against hooking up with co-stars; the actor himself failed to follow the advice.
The former couple, who met on the show, confirmed their relationship with a joint appearance at the Met Gala in May 2018 (People). Throughout their time together, they kept details mostly private but occasionally shared glimpses of their bond.
Despite their busy schedules and intense public attention, they managed to stay together for nearly three years before calling it quits in 2020. After speculations about tensions between them, Sprouse confirmed that they had separated in January 2020.
“I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love,” he shared in an August 2020 Instagram post, adding, “I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward.”
Lili Reinhart, however, has refrained from discussing their split publicly. “I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That’s incredibly private,” she shared in a tweet.
However, the former couple, along with their on-screen characters, Jughead and Betty, remain one of the most beloved couples among fans.
Madelaine Petsch Returns to the Screen Soon After The Stranger: Chapter 2
The Riverdale alum Madelaine Petsch is set to return to the screen with her upcoming romantic comedy Maintenance Required, coming soon after The Stranger: Chapter 2.
Directed by Lacey Uhlemeyer and starring Petsch alongside Jacob Scipio, Madison Bailey, and Katy O’Brien, the movie is set to premiere on Prime Video on October 8, 2025.
Maintenance Required follows Charlie (Madelaine Petsch), a mechanic shop owner who unknowingly confides in her online confidant, Beau (Jacob Scipio), who turns out to be her business rival. Things get complicated when their connection blossoms amid professional rivalry.
This marks Petsch’s return to film soon after the release of The Stranger: Chapter 2, in which she reprises her role as Maya Lucas. Though the movie received negative reviews, a third installment is already in development, with Petsch set to return as Maya Lucas in The Stranger: Chapter 3.
