With the Elden Ring Movie and the Sekiro: No Defeat anime on the way, fans can’t help but wonder what if the very franchise that lifted Hidetaka Miyazaki off the ground was adapted into another medium? We are talking about none other than the Dark Souls series, a trilogy that not only helped FromSoftware gain ground in the gaming industry but also pioneered the Souls genre as a whole.
Bearing in mind that the IP has a very committed player base, it is not rare to see fan artwork pop up often on social forums, often giving a peek into what something like a Dark Souls anime would look like, something which was already rumored back in 2023 (via Eurogamer). One of these recent artworks has fans convinced that the director needs to bring back Dark Souls anime from the void and manifest it into reality.
This Dark Souls Fan Art Could Inspire Hidetaka Miyazaki to Finally Create an Anime
Going off of what was making the rounds on the internet back in 2023, Dark Souls was reportedly getting an anime, which eventually got left in the void and was never talked about again.
However, in moments when fan art exceeds all boundaries, followers of the franchise can’t help but feel the absence of an official anime. Such is the case of a recent Ornstein & Smough art drawn in manga style by one of the many talented members of the r/darksouls subreddit.
Other members of the subreddit could not help but point out how the fan art looks like a real panel from the Berserk manga, making many realise it was about time Hidetaka Miyazaki finally invested in a Dark Souls anime.
Unfortunately, despite the demand for it, a Dark Souls anime seems a little far-fetched right now. Luckily, with the upcoming Elden Ring movie and the Sekiro: No Defeat anime, there is one glimmer of hope left, and it all depends on the success of these adaptations.
Will Sekiro: No Defeat’s Success Impact the Chances of a Dark Souls Anime?
Bearing in mind that FromSoftware is finally investing in getting their much-known IPs adapted into different media, there is slight hope firing up again for a Dark Souls anime, and it all depends on the success of the Sekiro: No Defeat anime.
First announced at Gamescom 2025, Crunchyroll, in a publishing partnership with Studio Qzil.la, has officially stepped its foot forward to adapt Hidetaka Miyazaki’s hardest game into an anime. The upcoming series will be set in the world of Ashina and is set to be officially released in 2026.
Elden Ring movie, on the other hand, is under development by A24 Productions and is set to be directed by none other than Alex Garland. With both Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice getting their own respective adaptations, it only makes sense that Dark Souls not be left behind, and might soon get an anime adaptation too, depending on the success of the upcoming projects.
