Latest The Elder Scrolls 6 Leaks Rundown: Possible Release Date, Setting, and Naval Combat Rumors Explained

By Brian Wilson 10/16/2025

The last couple of weeks haven’t proven to be great for the Xbox brand, but if there’s one title that could bring things back on track, it’s Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls 6. Some in the community have totally forgotten about Todd Howard’s next big project because it has stayed under wraps since that teaser all the way back in 2018. However, in recent months, a bunch of new details have emerged, including hints of a possible 2027 release, a Hammerfell setting, and fresh combat mechanics. Let’s take a look at everything we know.

When is Elder Scrolls 6 Releasing?

Let’s get to the burning question on everyone’s mind: When will Elder Scrolls 6 release? As of now, Bethesda hasn’t uttered a single word when it comes to an official release date or even a window. All we know for certain is that the developer is deep into the development with multiple builds and is taking its time to craft something that can build upon the legacy of previous Elder Scrolls games.

However, the rumor mill has something for us. One of the most reputable insiders, Extas1s recently, claimed on his YouTube video that Bethesda is planning to drop Elder Scrolls 6

in late 2027. If that does end up happening, the game might be a perfect choice for the next-generation Xbox that’s also set to release during the same time frame.

Another insider, Jez Corden, has suggested that a new trailer for the game is ready, and speculation suggests it will get a reveal at The Game Awards 2025. Of course, take all these leaks with caution, as only Howard knows what’s coming next.

Where Could Elder Scrolls 6 Take Place?

Another mystery surrounding Elder Scrolls 6 is where exactly it will be set. Todd Howard has hinted in the past that the 2018 teaser had a few clues, which made fans full-blown detectives. Seriously, they analyzed every single frame and terrain in the teaser to come up with some of the wildest theories you can ever imagine.

The leading theory right now suggests that Elder Scrolls 6 is set in Hammerfell, the homeland of the Redguards. This speculation comes from a 2020 X.com post where Bethesda encouraged fans to map the future of the series, and placed a candle over on Hammerfell. Since then, many have assumed that it’s a hint about the next game’s location.

Some reports suggest that the game might not be limited to a single province, and players might be able to explore Hammerfell’s deserts and High Rock’s mountains. Whatever ends up happening, it’s safe to say that Elder Scrolls 6 will be one of the biggest open worlds.

Will Elder Scrolls 6 Feature Naval Combat?

So, earlier this year, Extas1s stated that Elder Scrolls 6 will feature naval travel. That’s right, gamers, you might be able to build ships and engage in sea combat just like Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. But that’s not all, though, as rumors suggest players could use these vessels to ship between islands.

It’s been reported that Elder Scrolls 6 may feature 12-13 cities and span across multiple provinces, which means ships would be a perfect addition. It would be great to have content to explore across islands and seas, but there’s a good chance that this might just be a fast travel system. Some insiders even believe that underwater exploration might be a thing in the game.
