Keith Urban‘s misery might have begun long before the split from Nicole Kidman. The former couple’s separation came as shocking news to fans, who believed they were one of the power couples in the film and music industry. Urban seemingly opened up about his “lonely and miserable” life weeks before his separation from Kidman.
During the very first episode of the CBS show, The Road, the country singer got candid about how touring took a toll on his life. The reality competitive show sees 12 contestants go up against each other to land the opening act on Urban’s tour.
Urban shared about all the sacrifices he had to make during the tour, sharing that he missed his family. However, he shared that he was doing it because he was born to do it. He shared (via RadarOnline):
When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you’re sick as a dog, you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got to play your fifth show later that night. And you haven’t slept, and you miss your friends, and you’re missing your family, and you’re completely lonely and miserable and sick, and you say to yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?’ The only answer can be: Because this is what I’m born to do.
Earlier, a source told PEOPLE that the couple’s close circle knew that things weren’t going smoothly between the couple. The insider shared that “it really hasn’t been a secret” that Kidman and Urban have been “liv ing separately for a while now.”

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s marriage troubles were largely attributed to their busy schedules. A source told RadarOnline that they were seeing a lot less than usual in recent times due to their busy work. They shared, “Nicole and Keith were seeing less and less of each other in recent times, and it felt to a lot of people like they were two ships that passed in the night.”
The source added that the couple tried to put on a facade, but there were clearly issues behind the scenes. The source shared, “During those periods, they’d still put on a smile, and there was something to promote, but in hindsight, it feels like they were living a bit of a lie. They were clearly in trouble going on in the background.”
Another source also shared similar concerns with the Daily Mail. The source shared, “Keith never sees Nicole, either she is filming or he is on tour.” They added, “The intimacy isn’t there, they are just going through the motions [of being married].”

Fans didn’t suspect a thing when Kidman, Urban, and their kids were spotted together as a family three months ago at an event (via PEOPLE). They were seen together at the FIFA Club World Cup match between Los Angeles Football Club and Esperance de Tunis at GEODIS Park, Nashville. This was five days before their wedding anniversary.
On the anniversary day, Kidman didn’t break her tradition of wishing her husband on social media. She took to Instagram on June 25 to share a photo of her leaning on Urban’s shoulder, sharing, “Happy Anniversary Baby.” However, Urban did not post anything on this anniversary, which was unusual since he always took to social media to share loving posts about his wife.

According to the Daily Mail, insiders claimed that Keith Urban was in a relationship with “a younger woman in the music industry.” Later, some sources suggested that the “other woman” was his 25-year-old guitarist, Maggie Baugh. In April, the singer was seen singing the line “I was born to love you” while gazing over at Baugh on the stage during a performance.
Last week, during another performance, he switched Kidman’s name in a song that he wrote for her and made it into an ode for Baugh. Urban met Baugh when she was invited to perform with him at the CMT Music Awards in April 2024. Shortly after, the country music talent was offered a position in Urban’s band.

Sources close to Kidman shared that it almost seemed like Urban was trying to publicly embarrass his ex-wife. The source shared, “Keith looks as if he’s out to try to publicly embarrass and hurt Nic. He’s always been the quieter one, but now that seems to have changed.”
A source told RadarOnline that Kidman was devastated by the reports of his new romance, only days after their separation news broke out. They revealed that Kidman was also humiliated, adding that she was very image-focused and didn’t like it when people talked about her troubles behind her back.
The insider also shared that she had tried to save the marriage, but the supposed new girlfriend destroyed any hopes she had. They shared:
