WWE Superstar John Cena will retire after fighting his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025. As per several reports, he will be doing his last dance against Gunther. Likewise, some believe The Miz could be Cena’s final match-up. However, a pro wrestling legend believes The Leader of Cenation won’t be able to truly light another torch before his exit if he fights The Miz, or even The Ring General, for that matter.
Speaking on the Keepin’ it 100 podcast, Disco Inferno stated that Cena should fight Drew McIntyre in his final match. The 57-year-old said that a victory over The Franchise Player will give a huge and much-needed elevation to The Scottish Psychopath.
I don’t like The Miz and Cena. He’s only got a couple matches left. I do like Drew. I think Drew beating him would be a good result for Drew. [H/T TJR Wrestling]
Drew McIntyre is currently in the title picture for the Undisputed Championship. However, Triple H is still booking him as high-grade cannon fodder. None of his fiery promos and the hype with fans translates into a world title win.
The Scottish Warrior has been used as a stepping stone far too many times in both 2024 and 2025. However, as Inferno stated, if he does get a win against Cena, McIntyre will have great chances of both dethroning Cody Rhodes as well as to enjoy a long run with the Undisputed Championship.
John Cena Hypes Up a Mystery Wrestler

WWE recently posted a teaser clip of an unidentified wrestler on its official X account. The footage showcases a man wearing black loafers and black dress shorts taking a slow-motion walk. However, only the man’s feet are visible in the frame.
Fans have been clamoring about the identity of this mystery figure ever since, with several of them thinking it’s Gunther. Interestingly, shortly after this tweet from WWE, John Cena posted a still of the video on his official Instagram page.
A post shared by John Cena (@johncena)
It goes without saying that the record-setting 17-time WWE world champion uploaded the image without any caption, a pattern he never breaks on Instagram. This upload from Cena, along with the reports that he will fight Gunther, could mean that the mysterious man is indeed The Ring General. However, some details don’t sit with this narrative.
The Complex WWE Lore on the Mystery Wrestler

After dropping the above-mentioned clip on X, WWE also played the footage on this week’s episode of WWE RAW. Several similar videos were shown throughout the show, with the shoes changing in each instance.
Thus, there is a chance that instead of an individual wrestler, a faction may soon make its presence known.

It also played other teasers during the show, one of which showed a chip used in casinos with 2026 written on it.

If the casino chip and the mystery men are part of the same story package, then Gunther can’t be one of them. Especially if he is John Cena’s final opponent, who retires on December 13, 2025.
Some fans are thinking that the casino chip represents Las Vegas, which is WWE’s 2026 destination for WrestleMania 42. Thus, the mystery men could be aiming to make their mark at WM42. It remains to be seen what Triple H is planning to do and what the role of John Cena will be in it.
