John Cena Calls Edge “Two Face” But Has Big Compliments For AJ Styles and CM Punk

By John Jones 10/09/2025

WWE Superstar John Cena is at the tail end of his career. The Franchise Player won’t be able to fight all his rivals with the remaining number of appearances he has on his farewell tour. However, he recently profiled some of them, wherein he linked Edge (AEW’s Adam Copeland) with a negative character.

Notably, John Cena was recently seen at an event wherein he was asked to associate Edge, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles with DC Comics characters. Interestingly, the record-setting 17-time WWE world champion wasn’t given any choices and was free to link any of the wrestlers with any DC character.

John Cena labeled Edge as the supervillain Two-Face. Stating his reason, Mr Hustle Loyalty and Respect stated that he has been friends as well as “not friends” with the Rated-R Superstar. Speaking about AJ Styles, he linked him with Superman, stating that the former two-time WWE Champion was super-virtuous. He also called CM Punk Batman and called Seth Rollins The Joker.

The Leader of Cenation was confused between Punk and Rollins, and had initially linked The Straight Edge Superstar with The Joker. This showcases how similar the characters of both The Best in the World and The Visionary are, even to a pro wrestling legend like Cena.

Edge Had Paid an Unexpected Tribute to John Cena

Like John Cena mentioned, his relationship with Edge has been full of ups and downs. After all, the Rated-R Superstar won his first-ever WWE Championship by cashing in the inaugural Money in the Bank contract on Cena on January 8, 2006.

Since the 51-year-old wrestler is in the AEW right now, he won’t be able to wrestle The Franchise Player during his farewell tour. However, Adam Copeland didn’t let this limitation stop him from paying tribute to Mr Never Give Up on September 20, 2025.

While John Cena was fighting Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, Copeland had teamed up with Christian Cage to fight Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood at the 2025 AEW All Out. During his match, he did Cena’s signature You Can’t See Me gesture and landed a Knuckle Shuffle and an Attitude Adjustment.

The former two-time AEW TNT Champion has also teased parting ways with AEW and returning to WWE to possibly face John Cena. However, the 51-year-old is simply taking a break from the Tony Khan-led promotion to work on his movie commitments.

Who Will Be the Final Opponent of John Cena?

WWE has revealed that John Cena will be wrestling his final match on December 13, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Notably, The Never Seen 17 will be facing Gunther in his final match. As per a new report by Dave Meltzer on F4Wonline.com, the Stamford-based promotion has internally selected The Ring General to retire The Franchise Player.

The Austrian wrestler was last seen in the main event of Night One of the 2025 SummerSlam. Gunther was defending his World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk, with the latter emerging victorious, only to lose the belt when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Punk.

Gunther will reportedly be John Cena's final opponent.

Since then, fans have been wondering how Triple H would reintroduce him, especially since the WHC has a big line with Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight wanting the gold. Now, it seems The Ring General will get elevated once again and get the honor of retiring John Cena.

Do you think Gunther is the perfect final opponent for John Cena? Which DC characters would you have linked Edge, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles with? Pour your thoughts down in the comments section.
