James Gunn just revealed his best DCU casting and, surprisingly enough, it’s neither David Corenswet nor Nicholas Hoult. During a recent talk with Sirius XM (which went viral on X), the director revealed that Supergirl seems to be his best casting so far in the DCU.
The director stated that Milly Alcock (who portrayed the role of Supergirl in Superman) was absolutely spot-on for the movie.
James Gunn says Milly Alcock as Supergirl might be the best casting he’s ever done.

Well, that could sway from either the best thing or the worst thing for Milly Alcock, since being James Gunn’s favorite casting also has a price. This could potentially mean that Gunn will really bring out the emotional range of Alcock in her solo movie.
With equal amounts of happiness, sadness, triumph, and existential dread, it seems that James Gunn will really try to push the limits for Supergirl. One thing that can be said about Gunn, though, is that his castings are never wrong.
What Do James Gunn’s Castings Tell Us About His Movies

The director has never been wrong about any of his casting choices. From Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise to Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in Superman, you would never hear people complain that the actor wasn’t par for the role.
Either Gunn really takes his time during the auditioning process, or he just chooses to work with actors who are already pretty well-established. Whatever the case may be, Milly Alcock’s casting as Supergirl will indeed prove beneficial for the DCU, just because James Gunn has said so.
Following the confirmation of Man of Tomorrow (an indirect sequel to Superman), we are pretty sure that Gunn has started developing plans for Supergirl, with Milly Alcock starring in her own solo film.
Of course, it remains speculation at the moment, but you have to hand it to Gunn. The director really knows his way around Hollywood and movies.
Superman is available to rent on Apple TV (USA).
