Drew McIntyre has genuine resentment against CM Punk. This is evident from the remarks he made during an interaction with Joe Weller, Theo Baker, and Luke Martin on the Wafflin Podcast. The Scottish Giant shared:
We don’t like each other. We genuinely don’t, but we’re able to be professional enough within the confines of WWE to turn it into magic on television.
Apparently, this is not the first time McIntyre has unveiled his genuine hatred towards CM Punk. The Scottish Warrior, who is known for crossing the line in storylines, has been open about the fact that he is not on talking terms with the Second City Saint.
Drew McIntyre Has Described CM Punk as an ‘Awful Human Being’
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk have never seen eye to eye. While Punk has mostly restricted himself to storyline segments in the WWE, as far as McIntyre is concerned, the Scottish Giant has gone above and beyond to establish that his resentment towards Punk extends beyond WWE programming.
McIntyre opened up about Punk and revealed his true thoughts about him during the Impaulsive Podcast with Logan Paul. The former WWE Champion shared:
Punk is a genuinely awful human being, genuine piece of sh*t. I said it constantly, I am getting booed. I am like how can you this, I was your guy. I carried WWE through COVID. There’s no negative stories about me on the internet. Non stop negative stories about him. You do a character study on him. My degree is in criminology. He is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He’s a terrible terrible human being.
McIntyre particularly referred to the Hell in a Cell clash between him and Punk at Bad Blood 2024. During the high-stakes encounter, the Second City Saint convincingly defeated him, but McIntyre argued that he lost because of blood loss.
Additionally, McIntyre remarked that this encounter with Punk was the turning point in his wrestling career since it changed his perception. Earlier, McIntyre thought that his colleagues in the locker room were like family members, but that clash broke this belief he had growing up as an amateur in the business.
Drew McIntyre vs CM Punk: Storyline Which Became an Intense Feud in 2024
Drew McIntyre was involved in a major storyline feud with CM Punk upon his return to WWE at the 2023 Survivor Series: WarGames. Punk suffered a torn triceps after Drew McIntyre delivered a Futureshock DDT during the 2024 Royal Rumble. Punk was sidelined from WWE programming due to this injury, but it also laid the groundwork for the feud.
The animosity further intensified when McIntyre hinted that if Punk signed with RAW, he might be upset backstage and suggested that he should instead sign with SmackDown.
At WrestleMania 40, the rivalry peaked. Since Punk’s injury prevented him from competing, McIntyre seized the opportunity to enter the World Heavyweight Championship bout against Seth Rollins, which many had anticipated would be Punk’s role before his injury in January. Despite his injury, Punk somewhat inserted himself into the match by taking up a position at the commentary table.
McIntyre had a winning moment in the match, but the celebrations faded away when Punk’s interference caused enough of a distraction to McIntyre to allow Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, robbing McIntyre of his World Championship.
McIntyre, who had walked the line between hero and villain up to that point, began a descent into a darker, more obsessive character. Another major fallout between him and Punk came during the Clash at Castle in Scotland.
McIntyre appeared destined to defeat Damian Priest, the man who took advantage of him at WrestleMania 40, in front of his fellow countrymen with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at stake. Punk, however, once again showed himself to be McIntyre’s enemy by interfering during the game and denying the Scottish Warrior his opportunity to win.
The series of heated altercations between them culminated at SummerSlam 2024 when McIntyre finally managed to get the better of CM Punk with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee. It not only proved the supremacy of McIntyre inside the squared circle but also pointed out the fact that he is the future world title holder in the company.
With McIntyre’s remarks, it’s evidently clear that the hatred between him and Punk is not restricted to storylines or promo segments. But will it open up another chapter of heated altercations between them? Only time will tell.
