Comedy legend Rowan Atkinson, best known for his iconic role as Mr. Bean, is making a return to Netflix in Man Vs. Baby, the sequel to his 2022 slapstick hit Man Vs. Bee. Atkinson will reprise his role as Trevor Bingley in the upcoming series.

Initially announced in December 2024, Netflix has shared new updates about the upcoming series, confirming that Man Vs. Baby will premiere on the streaming platform this Christmas.

Rowan Atkinson Returning to Netflix This Christmas

Rowan Atkinson is set to return to Netflix on December 11, 2025, with Man Vs. Baby, the sequel to his 2022 comedy Man Vs. Bee. The new series will consist of four episodes, each about 30 minutes long.

Atkinson will reprise his role as Trevor Bingley, tasked with looking after a luxury London penthouse and a baby he never signed up for. While complete cast details are yet to be confirmed, Atkinson is joined by Alanah Bloor as Trevor’s daughter, Maddy.

The official synopsis of the series reads, as per Netflix,

After a disastrous experience housesitting a high-tech mansion hampered by an inconvenient insect in Man vs Bee, Trevor Bingley (Rowan Atkinson) now finds himself looking after a luxurious London penthouse, with another unlikely companion he didn’t ask for.

Man Vs. Bee followed Trevor Bingley as a hapless house-sitter battling a mischievous bee in a high-tech mansion. The nine-episode series received mixed to positive reviews, holding a 74% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The sequel series Man Vs Baby is being brought by the same creative team behind Man Vs. Bee, with Will Davies & Rowan Atkinson writing the show, and David Kerr returning as director for four episodes.

Rowan Atkinson on Taking On Uniquely Awkward Characters

Rowan Atkinson, the master of physical comedy and awkward charm, reflected on his penchant for playing socially clumsy yet endearing figures in a series of projects, including Mr. Bean, Johnny English, and Blackadder, along with Trevor in Man Vs. Bee.

In a 2022 interview with Netflix, Atkinson shared, “They tend to be a sort of singular, slightly isolated characters.” Further talking about Trevor Bingley in Man Vs. Bee, he explained,

Trevor is a little bit less isolated than a lot of other characters [I’ve played], and you see that he’s had a life [and family] for whom he obviously feels a lot. Besides his obsessiveness, which is his stumbling block — his weak point — I think he’s well-intending and good-natured, but he’s got fault lines.

He also shared that he often improvises his characters based on personal experience, saying, “I’m writing on the basis of my own experience and what I find funny or difficult.”

“We’ve all come across situations where you’re trying to work out: ‘How does this toilet flush? Is it that you press the button or you just wave your hand? Or do you just walk out the door and it flushes when you leave?” he continued, sharing how the universal awkwardness makes his characters timelessly funny.
