Is Luciane Buchanan Returning for The Night Agent 3? New Update

Months after The Night Agent Season 2 premiered on Netflix, Luciane Buchanan has opened up about whether or not she will be appearing in the next season. In an interview with Deadline in September 2025, Buchanan revealed that she will not reprise her role as Rose Larkin in the show. She told the outlet:

I won’t be returning to Season 3 of The Night Agent. As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career — being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind — the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose…

The news might come as a shock to some fans, as Rose was one of the lead characters in the show. Buchanan believes that this is an “exciting time” for the spy drama series, and also suggested that this does not have to be goodbye to Rose. So, all hope is not lost for those who were rooting for Rose.

Luciane Buchanan Is Open to Returning for The Night Agent
Spin-off

In the same interview with Deadline, Luciane Buchanan also said that she would not mind returning for a spin-off centered on Rose. She said:

I kept hinting at that, and they’re like, come on. Well, she doesn’t have to be out there shooting guns; she could be behind the computer doing some things.

Currently, there are no plans for a spin-off. For now, Buchanan is open to the possibility of a reunion for Rose and Peter. She stated:

I hope circumstances ultimately allow for the return of Rose to our Night Agent universe.

She also confirmed that creator Shawn Ryan and co-executive producer Marney Hochman have left the door open for Rose’s return. She is confident that Ryan and his team will find a way to incorporate Rose into the story, and perhaps she will make a cameo appearance in Season 3.

Here is a table with some key details about the show:

Buchanan’s Rose Larkin is the prime example of a woman in a male-dominated field. Rose is relatable yet strong and balances moments of vulnerability with resilience as she partners with Gabriel Basso’s FBI agent Peter Sutherland. Her absence in the upcoming season is bound to have an impact on the show.

Luciane Buchanan Is Hopeful for Chief of War Season 2

Buchanan is currently busy promoting her new Apple TV+ series Chief of War, inspired by real-life Hawaiian legends. She appears as Kaʻahumanu in the historical drama. Kaʻahumanu was King Kamehameha I’s wife, but she also had a history with the warrior chief, Kaʻiana. Jason Momoa brings Kaʻiana to life on the screen.

With the show’s finale set to be aired on September 19, Buchanan is hopeful that the show will be renewed for another season. In the same conversation, she added,

I think anyone who watched the show and has dug into the history will know that there are many, many more battles and betrayal and different things that happen in order for Kamehameha to unite these kingdoms. So, there’s definitely more to be explored, and I am crossing my fingers. But at this point, I have no idea what’s going to happen.

Jason Momoa has co-created the show with Thomas Paʻa Sibbett and also executive produces it. While the show has been received positively by fans and critics, Chief of War‘s renewal ultimately depends on the viewership and the drop-off rate over the season.
