Ronald D. Moore Shared an Exciting Production Update on the God of War Series
Though updates about the God of War adaptation, which has been in development since 2022, have been scarce, showrunner Ronald D. Moore has recently shared an exciting update.
During his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Moore reflected on the intricacies of the franchise’s mythology and confirmed that the team is actively working on the scripts.
He told ScreenRant,
Well, I can’t get really into the creative, but I can tell you now, we’re working on the scripts right now, and this just an amazing property. It’s a deep mythology. It’s a lot of interconnected pieces.
He also praised Corey Barlog, the creative director of the games, for his encyclopedic knowledge of the series’ mythology.
During the conversation, Ronald D. Moore also admitted that though this is his first time adapting a video game, the process has been impressive and fun so far for him.
Everything We Know About Amazon’s God of War Adaptation
The God of War series adaptation was announced in 2022, with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios producing in association with PlayStation Productions.
Initially, the project was in development under writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (The Expanse), with Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) serving as showrunner (Deadline).
However, in October 2024, reports revealed that Fergus, Ostby, and Judkins had all left the project, as the studio decided to take the adaptation in a new creative direction (Deadline). Ronald D. Moore was then hired as the writer and showrunner of the adaptation (Deadline).
Any further updates about the series adaptation have since been limited. But Moore has occasionally shared insight into the project, including that Amazon has already ordered two seasons of the series.
“Right now I’m working on the adaptation of this video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they have asked me to come in,” he shared in a March 2025 appearance on The Sackhoff Show.
Although details such as casting and the era the series will focus on remain unconfirmed, Amazon Studios’ Head of Television, Vernon Sanders, has reassured fans that the adaptation will stay faithful to the video game series.
