Played by actress Brie Larson, many expected Captain Marvel to make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, but her name did not appear in the official cast list released by Marvel Studios. But don’t get disheartened, rumours suggest that Larson could appear in Avengers: Doomsday, thanks to her cheeky tease on Instagram.
In the post that Larson shared were sketches of Captain Marvel that spell out “DANVERS,” her character’s last name, with a second piece beneath reading “AVENGE.” This post follows a recent social media update where she hinted at a “new chapter” in her career. Fans thus wasted no time jumping to conclusions and speculating that this could be MCU-related, especially given that Avengers: Doomsday is currently filming in the UK.

Just like Larson, many other well-known MCU stars have not made the cut as of now, but are strongly speculated to make an appearance. Here is a list of five of those heroes who might be in the film, but are out of the spotlight.
1. Captain America (Chris Evans)
The official cast of Avengers: Doomsday was revealed in March 2025 during a livestream event on Marvel’s social media platforms, and fans were quick to notice that actor Chris Evans, who plays Captain America in the MCU, was missing from the list. This was quite obvious since his time in the MCU has officially wrapped up, but this might not be the case.

While promoting his latest film, Sacrifice, Chris Evans had fans buzzing online about his possible return as Captain America. Many noted that his newly bulked-up physique seems more than just being in shape, claiming the actor was back in “superhero shape.” So yes, he might not be done with superhero roles after all.
2. Spider-Man (Tom Holland)
Tom Holland’s name missing from the list has particularly created waves among the fans because he’s one of the most popular Marvel characters in the world. At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker’s identity was erased from everyone’s memory, so there is a possibility that the creators would want to explore that storyline and have decided to keep Spider-Man out of this movie. But some MCU insiders have claimed that he is rumored to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Fans are desperately hoping that this rumor turns out to be true because everyone is eager to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man come face-to-face with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, which would be an exciting moment indeed.
3. Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
Hulk is among the few original Avengers who are still active in the MCU, so when Mark Ruffalo’s name didn’t appear in the list, it left the fans disappointed. Many believe that this is the end of an era. However, as per many industry insiders, there is still a possibility that he plays some part in the Avengers: Doomsday.
But if that report turns out to be false, then the only returning characters from Marvel’s Phase One are Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
4. Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)
Another unexpected exclusion from the list is Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch previously claimed that he would reappear as Doctor Strange in Avengers: Doomsday, but he recently clarified his comments when he told Business Insider, he will be appearing in the next film and not Avengers: Doomsday. But when he was asked by Omelete why he wasn’t featured in the massive cast lineup reveal, Cumberbatch replied:
Who knows?… Maybe they just didn’t have enough chairs.
His last appearance was during the post-credit scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Stephan Strange was seen venturing into the multiverse with Clea to fix the incursions he had unleashed.
5. Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris)
At the end of 2023’s The Marvels, Teyonah Parris‘ Monica Rambeau uses her new abilities to close the interdimensional tear created by Dar-Benn, but she gets trapped in another universe. In the post-credits scene, she wakes up in a parallel universe to find Maria Rambeau, her mother, alive, and Beast (Kelsey Grammer), a popular character from the X-Men, which indicates that she was sent to the X-Men’s timeline.
Unfortunately, Teyonah Parris’ name hasn’t appeared in the official cast list, but we know that most of the X-Men are confirmed to be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, so it would not make sense to leave out Monica Rambeau. Plus, fans believe that one of her recent Instagram stories (via X) might be a hint that she will make an unexpected appearance.
