I’m Convinced Black Myth Wukong’s Upcoming 93 GB Update Will Fix My Biggest Gripe With the Game

By John Moore 10/13/2025

Black Myth: Wukong is getting a large update, which is supposed to fix issues surrounding performance and bugs overall. This rumor provoked a question within me: Will Game Science fix the godawful combat? Don’t get me wrong, the game has its charms, but there’s no denying the combat didn’t justify the pricing.

Additionally, since the game is bringing an update as big as 93.5 GB, it better be a complete rework addressing these issues. If not, then it puts some doubt in Black Myth Zhong Kui, since Game Science is making another title already.

Wukong Was Great, but the Combat Was a Snoozefest

I love souls-like games, be it Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Hollow Knight; the difficulty and reward are always fulfilling. However, when I was playing Black Myth: Wukong, the sense of achievement was just gone. Additionally, even the world was somewhat boring to traverse.

For someone who is used to FromSoftware’s detail-filled worlds and fine-tuned combat, Game Science’s attempt just felt like a knock-off. But again, the story and cinematic moments were surely mesmerizing, which has to be praised.

Well, Game Science never called Black Myth: Wukong a Souls-like, but it does have challenging combat, which is fast-paced. Even if that’s the case, the hitboxes on enemies were inconsistent. Even at times, I found the controls to be unresponsive at times.

In a way, Black Myth: Wukong was not that challenging because it was purely a mash buttons simulator. As a matter of fact, the heavy attack button was more or less a gimmick. You can use it if you want, but you’ll probably be using combos instead.

With the dawn of a new update coming to the title, it’s expected these issues will be dealt with, because I certainly wasn’t the only one feeling this way. It doesn’t need to make the gameplay more difficult; it just has to keep it playable.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui Could Face Major Consequences if the Combat Is Lackluster

Black Myth: Zhong Kui was revealed at Gamescom 2025 and gave rise to major excitement among fans. However, it also arrived with skepticism about whether it would improve the combat experience or not.

Black Myth games are surely amazing with their world-building, but it wouldn’t be a game if the gameplay mechanics didn’t work as intended. If the stories are the main attraction, a narrative game would have worked fine, but that isn’t an option with the RPG genre.

If Game Science just keeps all hopes on visual fidelity once again, without much attention to combat, then Black Myth: Zhong Kui might end up failing. In a way, I feel, Black Myth: Wukong got a pass because of the visuals, which distracted everyone from gameplay.

Let’s hope the same isn’t repeated, or else it’s bad news for Game Science. Do you think the gameplay was alright, or does it surely need some upgrades? Share your opinions in the comments below.
