Recap of Season 1 Episode 1 of I Love You Since 1892

I Love You Since 1892

Season 1 Episode 1 opened with Carmelita Montecarlos (Heaven Peralejo) from 1892 in colonial Philippines holding a diary in her hand as she walked towards a river, with a nun following close behind. Carmelita sat by the river and cried until night fell. Then, she opened the notebook and wrote:

“7th of March, 1892. Juanito, my love. This should not have happened. Just wait… We will see each other again. Our love… will be rewritten on the day of the fourth chance.”

After writing this, she put down the diary and walked into the river, drowning herself. The nun picked up Carmelita’s notebook and brushed her hand against it. Then, the scene changed to a city, bringing the story back to the present, where Carmela Isabella, a business management student, found herself in the counseling room after a fight with her best friend, Shae Mendez (Bella Thompson).

The episode also introduced fans to Carmela’s family, comprising two sisters, Jenny and Emily, and her father, David Isabella (Arnold Reyes). Her father loved his daughters, but had high expectations of Carmela, who was reckless and liked to live in the moment. Carmela’s mother passed away when she was only eight.

The Isabella family decided to pay a visit to Carmela’s grandmother in San Alfonso. Later that night, her grandmother took her to a room and unveiled an old painting. Much to Carmela’s surprise, her great-great-grandmother Carmelita looked just like her. When she urged her grandmother to let her sisters and father also see the painting, the old woman ignored her request. There are also a few flashbacks of Carmelita in the episode.

In the next episode, Carmela will find Carmelita’s diary and read what she had written before dying. She will escape her grandmother’s home and get into trouble. One day, she will meet the nun and get unexpectedly transported back to the past, where everyone assumes her to be Carmelita. When she protests and asks to be let go, the nun slaps her across the face in front of the other women.

Later, the nun tells Carmela that the only way to go back to her timeline is by taking Carmelita’s place and ensuring that her love story does not have a tragic end. The nun also informs Carmela that she has to stop Carmelita from falling for Juanito Alfonso (Jerome Ponce). However, the episodic preview suggests that the duo will fall for each other regardless of the warning.

Do you think Carmela will be able to stop the inevitable from happening and go back to her life?
