By Andrew Jones 10/07/2025

In the middle of The Life of a Showgirl‘s release and her engagement to Travis Kelce, netizens have been digging up skeletons from Taylor Swift’s past, and it does not paint her in a good light. We are talking about her relationship with Conor Kennedy when she was 22 years old and he was a 17-year-old high schooler.

This part of her past is resurfacing on social media when Swift seems to be at the top of the mountain, both professionally and personally. Back then, a source claimed that Swift was so smitten with Kennedy she couldn’t be away from him (via Huffpost).

She reportedly sent a private plane to Hyannis Port to pick Kennedy up and fly him to her. The source said,

Taylor missed Conor so much, she sent a plane for him a few days later. He’s been with her ever since, and his family doesn’t know when he will be back. Things have become so serious between them so fast that no one in Hyannis Port would be surprised if they eloped.

Swift replied to the reports, laughing at the absurdity and stating (via USA Today).

How did I kidnap him? You can’t kidnap a grown man! These are serious accusations, now! It’s an intersting way to spin something into a story.

Despite dismissing headlines, Swift continues to face backlash for the romance because of the age gap. While she called him a grown man during the interview, people were quick to point out that the “grown man

” was a high school student at the time.

Calls him a grown man… he’s a high school junior

In fairness, she is technically correct when she says she couldn't kidnap a grown man, because she had in fact kidnapped a child

Conor, the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Swift dated for a short while, but even that was enough to make headlines that would follow her for time immemorial. It has been years, and while she may have moved on, the world sure hasn’t.

Brief Look Into Taylor Swift’s Short-Lived Romance With Conor Kennedy

Conor Kennedy and Taylor Swift first sparked romance rumors in July 2012 (via US Weekly), when they were spotted together in Hyannis Port throughout the month. According to the outlet, they were seen taking a stroll at the beach and playing around on trampolines.

An eyewitness said,

Conor put his arm around Taylor, and they kissed behind the boat shed.

Their relationship was confirmed the next month. Around that time, Swift purchased a $4.8 million home near the Kennedy compound to stay close to her younger beau.

As per a source, Swift was “head over heels” and “smitten” with Kennedy. Their relationship came to an end in September 2012, with an insider telling US Weekly that they had “quietly parted ways“.

Swift was first introduced to him after she connected with his aunt, Rory Kennedy, a year before their romance bloomed. It all started with Rory reaching out to the singer for concert tickets in 2011. Later, Swift was present at the screening of Ethel, Rory’s documentary about her mother, at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

Ethel was apparently on board with Swift becoming a Kennedy in the future, as she stated, “We should be so lucky.” When Conor’s mother, Mary, died by suicide in 2012, the Opalite singer was right there for her then-boyfriend, with sources claiming that she had been a “real shoulder to cry on.”

It is widely believed that her song, Begin Again, from her fourth studio album ‘Red’, is about her relationship with Conor.

Did Taylor Swift Crash a Wedding With Conor Kennedy?

Conor and Kennedy’s relationship was a subject of scrutiny for more reasons than one. Back in the day, Swift was accused of crashing the wedding of Michael and Victoria Gifford Kennedy’s daughter’s wedding to Liam Kerr.

Apparently, Swift was asked to leave the venue twice, but she did no such thing. As per the Boston Herald, someone present at the hotel witnessed it all. Telling her side of the story, Victoria said,

They texted me an hour before the wedding and asked if they could come. I responded with a very clear, ‘Please do not come.’ They came anyway. I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave. It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me.

Apparently, Conor had not RSVP’d to the wedding, but gave his aunt a last-minute heads-up, asking if he could also bring his girlfriend. Victoria didn’t want Swift to be there as she didn’t want her daughter’s limelight to be divided.

A spokesperson for Swift said that there is no truth to the story, and that not only was she invited to the wedding, but the bride also “thanked her profusely for being there.

Swift herself spoke about this in an interview (via USA Today), denying the accusations. She said that it must have been a misunderstanding on someone’s part because

I would never knowingly show up somewhere that I thought I wasn’t invited to…And I would never want to upstage anybody.

There may be no way to know what actually happened that day, but what we do know is that Swift is being criticized left and right for dating Conor and others with a similar age gap.
